Question about Panasonic DMR-E85H DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Finalizing a dvd fails to complete function.

Before completion of finalizing process (approx 1/4 along), machine switches off.
It comes back to life after a while but the dvd has failed to finalize. Trying to finalize it again, produces a message displaying FINALIZE FAILED. The disc will play on the machine, but not on any other machine. Putting it into another machine gets the message that the disc is blank?

The power supply board on the DMR-E85H has problems. The earlier boards suffered from leaking capacitors and the later boards from voltage regulator problems. Go to the following links for details and photos on how to fix: Replacing capacitors:http://www.fixya.com/support/t216825-dvd_recorder_frozen_please_wait_display Replacing the voltage regulator:http://www.rbjtech.net/electrical/e85/e85.htm#0 Hope this helps. My machine had the same problem and has the later ps board. The voltage regulator replacement worked perfectly.

Before you try the power supply board repair, I would recommend you get a CD/DVD cleaning disk. This is basicly a CD with tiny cleaning brushes. You should be able to get one from a computer accessory store.

I got a new machine, when I transfer from VHS to DVD-R it records, but will only play on the machine I recorded on, it doesn't load on other DVD players, why is that?

You need to FINALIZE the DVD-R you recorded in that unit for it to be playable on other DVD players. This function should be part of the on-screen menu for your unit. (in Panasonic DVD recorders, it's under DVD MANAGEMENT in the FUNCTIONS menu).

If the disc you recorded is already loaded, but stopped, press SETUP on your remote - an on screen menu should appear.

Using the UP/DOWN arrow keys, select DVD MENU and press ENTER. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys again to select FINALIZE and press ENTER.

A message box will popup 'Finalize disc?' use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select YES then press ENTER. Finalizing should start and may take a while to complete.

Once complete, the disc is now playable on other DVD players. (from page 32 of the owners manual with the heading 'PLAYING THE DISCS IN OTHER DVD PLAYERS')

DVD Finalization

im guessing your talking about a new disc here , before you can do anything with the disc ,you will either have to format it or erase it, once you have donr that you can then use the disc and edit its contents. im assuming you are using the correct type of disc for your machine, eg dvd+rw or dvd-rw check the manual to make sure your machine can record onto a dvd+rw disc. hope this is of some help to you.

Sorry u can't do anythings to the finalize codes, the dvd coppy process, the machine auto finalizing progamming codes belong to that machine done it by itself. Some compannies protect it softwares codes don't share with other in the industries. That why some programming codes copying dvd is finalizing in one machine. Can be used in that machine only or it partners olny.Check,if the dvd can be play in the computer?Buy a DVD coppy software for a computer.Recopy the DVD throught the computer software. The computer softwares have common sharing finalizing codes in the industries.U will be able play it in any DVD players.

DVD burn with DVD X-copy not completing finalizing mode

"Is this what is causing the "finalizing" to not complete the burn?" ... Almost certainly yes. You need to update/reinitialize your Patin Couffin engine device drivers(s).

Referer: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Patin_Couffin_access_layer.htm
Download: http://www.freecodecs.net/fc/patin-couffin_37.zip
  1. Download the stand-alone installation package.
  2. After download is complete, close all other applications, then run it.
  3. Restart (reboot) your system.
  4. Test by re-performing the same procedure(s) which previously failed and generated the error dialog (pop-up).

Finalizing dvd

Hello,
Unplug the device from the outlet and wait 15 seconds before plugging back in. This will reset the device and stop the process, but it will not complete the process so you will have another incomplete dvd. Once you plug the device back in, you should be able to open and remove the disc and all functions should be back to normal. Let me know if you need further assistance.

If you do not mind, please rate my help I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks

If you unplugged the recorder while this process was ongoing, it probably failed. You will need to record again.
