There are two plastic nipples that are pressed into rubber grommets, just grab the bottom and pull straight out while wiggling the air box assembly. Make sure you pull the rubber fuel lines out of the way so that the air box cam come straight out. The resistance you are feeling is either the rubber grommets or the fuel lines in the way. I have had mine apart a dozen times!

I have a 12.5 hp Briggs and stratton lawn mower engine that will not start. It has fresh gas and a new spark plug. every time i try to crank it it makes a rattling noise

The rattling noise may or may not be related to the motor not starting, but I'd definitely figure out what's causing the noise first. Could be anything from busted ratchet pieces in the recoil mechanism to a piece of debris dragging across the flywheel fan blades to a loose coil to a busted connecting rod down to a broken governor, bad main bearing or loose blade. Since I can't hear the noise, I'd recommend first checking the one of those things that would definitely make a rattling noise and would definitely keep the motor from starting: Remove the spark plug and shine a penlight into the cylinder, noting the position of the piston. Pull the starter rope just enough to make the engine turn over partway. Repeat a few times. If the piston doesn't move, busted rod. That'd be both the source of the noise and why it won't start. If the piston does move, I'd work by process of elimination until I found and addressed the source of the noise. That done, make sure you have a good spark when you crank it. That done, the problem is almost certainly a dirty carb. If your carb has what appears to be a 1/2" nut holding the bowl on, either shut off the fuel valve (if your motor has one) or clamp the fuel line to the carb and remove the 1/2" nut from the bottom of the carb bowl. The "nut" is actually the main jet. Clean it and the bowl with carb cleaner, making sure the tiny holes in the nut/jet are squeaky clean. Reassemble, remove the clamp and try again. If still no go (or it's the older-style carb with screws holding the bowl on) you'll have to pull the carb and do a complete disassembly and cleaning. Dang this was a long-winded answer but I didn't have much to go on. Hope it helps.

Where do I put the carbeurator gaskets on husqvarna5521?

this link shows how to rebuild a carb. I suggest cleaning the jets before you try anything else, if you havent done so already. At the bottom of the carb there is a not that holds the bowl in place. Remove yhe nut and bowl. In the nut there are tiny holes, clean them out using a wire (bread tie will work) you can also use an air compressor, A shot of carb cleaner wont hurt. More often than not this is the cause of most small engine issues. How to Fix Lawn Mower Carburetor eReplacementParts com

Etq in1800i will not start

Did you just clean the Bowl in the Carburetor or did you make sure the tiny holes in the Jet was clean too? Not familiar with this model but I doubt it is anything more than Gravity fed.

Oil in the gas tank

Not a big deal. Im assuming this is a 4-stroke push mower and not a leaf blower.
Remove the air box cover, air filter, and air box back plate. Careful there is a gasket on the back of the backplate that if damaged the primer bulb wont work, part # 272653. Remove the fuel line from the carb and drain the tank. Using a 1/2 inch wrench remove the bowl nut from the float bowl on the carb, hold the bowl to the carb as to not break the gasket seal, drain the bowl and replace the bowl nut. If you tried to run the unit and oil is in the cylinder remove the spark plug ( clean the spark plug) and spray some carb cleaner in the hole and pull the starter rope several times to purge the cylinder. Reinstall the spark plug, reattatch the fuel line, install the air box back plate ( leave the air filter and cover off for now), add fresh fuel.
Take unit outside and start, you may need to give it a shot of carb cleaner in the throat of the carb to help it start. It may smoke, it may blow oil out the muffler. Let it run until it quits smoking ( usually around 5 minutes) . Shut it off and complete assembly. It should be fine.

My 1994 yamaha yzf 600g only starts with starting fluid.after, it'll rev to 7000 but no higher. if i let the revs below 3000 it dies. carb cleaning?

Before you clean the carb, look closely to make sure there are no air leaks which could short-circuit the flow of air past the jets. Loose bolts or nuts holding on the carb could be one source of severe air leaks. While cleaning the carb, examine the float adjustment carefully to make sure enough fuel is being held in the bowl. You should be able to tell this when you first take off the bowl from the carb.

Craftsman eager-1 3.75 mower will not stay running

the engine is not getting enough gas. when you hold down the primer you are bypassing this problem. to fix this simply adjust the carb's fuel screw, located on the side of carb, a little at a time until runs smoothly.

The carbs are plugged. Take the bowl off the carburetor by loosening the nut on the bottom. You'll want to clamp the fuel line before you do this. That nut has a small hole that goes through the nut from side to side, and one that connects them in the center. Use a wire brush to knock all the deposits loose, making sure that the holes are clean and free of obstruction. Put it all back together, and it should run fine.
