Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

1 Answer

Wireless reception has degraded almost completely

I have used my hp dv4000 for 3 years with a WRT54gs wireless router and Comcast. I use it upstairs from the router and have had "very good" reception until this spring. Now I'm getting "very low." My other laptop, a dv6500, still has "excellent" reception with the same set-up. Would it perhaps help if I got a new laptop card for the dv4000?

This may not be a good solution but yeah you have to coz maybe your wireless network card is getting too much "noise/interference" from any other sources.

Do you mean you are an Xfinity (Comcast) user?

Anyway, you might have some luck calling Comcast and asking them for a higher-bandwidth service, but really if you're connecting to your router over a wireless channel that will be your bottleneck since the 802.11g standard for wireless networking supports a maximum bandwidth of 54 Megabits per second (Mbps).

I need a simple set-up manual for model # WRT54GS router

Your Internet service provider is comcast cable company.
You need to open the setup page of the router and change the Internet connection settings manually.

Connect the computer to the router and modem to the router.
Open the setup page of the router using 192.168.1.1
Click on MAC address clone. Enable it and click save settings.
Power cycle the router and your main computer will be online.
Then you can change the wireless settings manually.

Click Linksys router setup steps

My daughter gave me this router and I don't know how to properly install it.please reply to ljc15108@comcast.net.Also I don't have the CD.

Hi,

Please do the following

If you have a internet modem connect the lan cable from the Modem to the router's Wan / Internet Port.

From the Lan port you can connect to the system . Or use wireless fuction to connect computer to router

. If you are using wireless then just scan for wireless network from your system and connect it when the wirelelss network got visible

Thanks

So I really need help. I have a Linksys (WRT54GS) wireless router upstairs connected to the internet, printers, etc. and a Netgear (WGT624) downstairs connected to a desktop, xbox and laptop. I don't want...

More information is needed.
Is the 'WAN' port on the Netgear router connected to anything?
(cable-modem? DSL-modem?)

How many friends will come over at the same time?
How many 'LAN' ports are on the Linksys? How many ports are "free" ?
How many 'LAN' ports are on the Netgaear? How many ports are "free" ?
How many "spare" Ethernet cables do you have?

Is your goal to provide computer-to-computer connectivity,
or are you just trying to provide Internet access for everybody?

If you are "downstairs", is the wireless signal from the "upstairs" router strong-enough to provide wireless coverage "downstairs"?

Linksys wrt54gs router and Xbox live

make sure that internet connection working fine first..if it is connect you xbox via wired or wireless(if wireless, make sure that you connect to your own wireless network and enter the wireless security if there is)...check if you can get an ip address, better set to obtain the ip address and dns of your xbox, if all set and still unable to access internet, access the linksys router setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of your internet explorer, when pop-up for username and password type admin under password, leave it empty for the username. Click administration tab and disabled UPnP. Check if your X-BOX working fine. Hope this help you.
