Need timing info jd 329 diesel 6600 combine engine injector pump

Need to know how to time injector pump.could i have messed up timing on the gears while removing old pump

SOURCE: toyota hilux 1984 timing

looking at the gears the upper one is on the gear its a dot. it goes flush with the valve cover mating surface to the right. gear on the right lower has a line and it goes pointed up with a mark on the block. crank gear has a v grove and an arrow on the block just under idler adj good luck man mark as fixed thanks

SOURCE: need the timing marks for a 3.1 td 5 cyl diesel injection pump

isusu engine?? have you looked for a 8mm hole in timing gear that corresponds with a hole on plate behind then lock it in with a bolt ,remove bolt after tightening belt .DONT FORGET THIS ???.....if you cant find anything do it with no timing marks easy --- piston no 1 at tdc valves closed spin pump till fuel comes out of no 1 injector feed and lock it all together,indirect diesel is 6/8 ,,,,,direct injection is 12/16,,,,and turbo is 18/22 btdc

there is a little mark on the crankshaft which you line up with the 'o' mark on the casing ..
remove the cam cover and look at the cam you should see a nob on the cam about 3 th lob and that should be facing just left of the engine ..
if you have a turbo there is two notchs on the injection pump pully ..if turbo there is a 't' mark on the rear of the cover the notch on the pully should mark up with the 't'..
the timing is set..

The separated gears are turned in opposite direction to each other untill the locking holes align.
It needs abit of force to align the holes,then lock the holes with M6 bolt.

u have to unplug the spout small gray plug on driver side in the eng comp . on the fender wall on plug that set timming thing it should b 10 deg b4 top dead center then plug spout back in comp will adv timming

Hi, depends what colour black smoke, is it bluey black, grey black, whitey black, You may have to take it to a Diesel fuel shop, It may be the timing on the engine or the injector pump, (the pump may need to be timed to the engine, also the Injector pump also may need calibrating.) To calibrate pump you need to take it to a Diesel Fuel Workshop. Due to wear and conditions the injectore nozzles, injector pump, timing and performance of the engine will change over time.

How do I time the injector pump on a mitsubishi 4D33 . I can time the main gear no worries but how do I time the fine timing marks between the main pump and front pump housing / timing gear housing .


There is a timing light made for diesel engines works on the injector pulse and TDC mark . best bet take it to diesel service workshop, or buy one, not cheap.

Timing gears? have you pulled it that far apart? On timing gears there are usually stamped onto the gears a small dot. lign them up. Not sure why tore down so far? If you take off the diesel pump align the timing marks in the small window plate first else you will be in a mess.

How do I get more power from my 1984 6.9 diesel


Hello, I owned a similar motor. They were underpowered and had a reputation for that. About all you can do is have someone check the Injector pump pressure and to time the Injector pump.

Timing the Injector pump will change the fuel mix. Just as setting the timing on a gas engine, you can lean out a diesel motor by changing when the fuel hits an open Intake valve. Or make it richer by the same method. On your motor the Injector pump is gear driven. There is an adjustment for the setting and you really need to know what you are doing.

You can also try to reduce backpressure on the exhaust system. This would require a different muffler and the larger you can make the exhaust pipes from the headers back, the better your truck will run. There is a limit. You have a governor which limits the top RPM. Diesels are a low reving engine with about 3000 RPM tops.

Your differential is another factor. There were some 4 something and 5.33? rear ends. The automatics were horrendously slow. Since your model still has the old time Ignition and mechanical Injector, the "Bulldog" and electronic aftermarket gadgets are not compatible. My truck would not hit 70MPH.

You are using a 27 year old truck. You may have to upgrade to a newer model to get the power you want. Go to a Diesel specialist for your adjustments before spending money on the exhaust. I hope my Solution is helpful, and that your modifications work out.

You forgot to say which engine is in your vehicle?
The HZ engine has timing gears and a timing belt (That's a diesel engine) the belt drives the injector pump
The KZ engine also has gears and a timing belt,. (Also a diesel engine) same as above.
The RZ engine uses just a timing belt (And that one is a petrol engine)
