12V Doesn't work Saturn SC

I have a 1998 Saturn SC1 and my 12 volt (Lighter jack) doesn't work. I need to get a phone charger/GPS and whatnot but I can't do anything without the jack giving out power. I checked my fuse box under the hood, and that doesn't work. Does anybody know where the fuse box on the inside of the car would be so I can check that? Or if you have any other ideas.. That would be great.

The interior fuse box is hidden really well. It's located on the center console (just in front of your cup holders) on the passenger side of the car. Just grab the little square box thing with your fingers and pull it to the left. It should come off pretty easily. The cover (what you pulled off) will have a diagram of what each fuse is for, and even a fuse puller for easy access.

The lighter in a Chevy Lumina can get lost easily if you routinely pull it from the socket to plug in electronic devices like GPS systems, cell phone chargers and laptops. If so, you need to replace it.

Penny dropped into the cigarette lighter of my 2008 saturn astra. I got the penny out, but the cigarette lighter doesn't work

hi,

there must have been a weak connection somewhere in the line.
use a volt meter to trace from the lighter to the fuse box.
I have also seen the wire connection go bad during a short in the back of the fuse box itself where the wire goes in.
follow the 12 volts and you will find your problem.

I've borrowed a friend's Garmin for a trip and when I use the car charger, it doesn't display anything. Once I disconnect, it becomes visible again. I'm going on a long trip and worry. ...

Assuming there is power at the cigarette lighter jack - turn the Nuvi off - then connect the charger. It should display charging battery or charging complete.
If nothing - does it charge with the wall charger? If so check the fuse in the car charger - it's usually in the tip of the charger which can be turned to get the fuse out.

My garmin charges with my computer but stopped charging in the car

The most obvious answer is a possible blown fuse in the cigarette lighter socket or the in the tip of the charger plug. Most charger plug fuses are accessed by unscrewing the metal tip. Check both for good fuses.

If this doesn't solve the problem, make sure the points of contact between the charger, cradle and GPS are all free of dirt and grime. Don't forget to vacuum the cigarette lighter socket - especially if it is used as a lighter, too.

Fuse blown on cigarette lighter Saturn 2001

It sounds like you have a bad charging cable for the GPS or the cable is overloading the cigarette lighter.

The cigarette lighter is designed for less power then a 12v power outlet.

Therefore it is easy to blow the fuse for the cigarette light if you install something that draws too much power.

How to recharge the unit

you can charge it via the usb or cigarette lighter.  either method will work and i am not aware of any problems created by using the lighter.  that really should be the primary charge method as it is expected to be used in the car.  is it charging on your computer.  if it is, but not on the lighter you may want to ensure that the lighter is itself working correctly and then also check to make sure that the fuse in the car charger is intact.  just a few suggestions
