SOURCE: My Whirlpool refrigerator trips the main breaker of 40 Amps

A refrig cannot pull 40 amps in defrost , unless there is a direct short in the defrost system ( timer , heater , bimetal ) . I would use an extention cord ( for test purposes only ) , and try a different plug . Sounds like the circuit breaker is weak . In defrost , the MOST you should get , is 6 amps . This will not throw a 40 amp breaker . If you have an amp meter , remove the back refrig panel behind the refrig , and connect to one of the power cord lines (just not the green ground ) , turn into defrost and check the amps . This will tell you if short is in refrig , or weak breaker .

SOURCE: Where is the defrost drain in a whirlpool

It's part 7 in this diagram. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5149338&diagram_id=929467#d929467

It's behind the rear cover inside the freezer. From there the water drains to the drip pan underneath the fridge where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

SOURCE: Do you know where I can get a wiring diagram on a

Hello Thayden,

I understand that the Refrigerator compressor is not working on your unit. There are three possibilities of why the compressor is not working, the compressor is bad, the starter is bad, or the capacitor is bad.

To check the starter you will need to do the following (most common): Refer to picture at the bottom of the post
1. Unplug the unit
2. On the side of your compressor there is a cover this is the starter relay cover.
3. Remove the cover
4. Remove the wires
5. Remove the starter (top piece stuck on two rods)
6. Check if bad (shack it if you hear a noise/knocking it is bad and will not allow compressor to start)
7. Replace it and the bottom one the over load.
8. Reinstall in reverse

The Run Capacitor (uncommon that they go bad but possible)
1. The little black or silver box that two wires run to from the starter
2. Check to see if contacts or unit is burnt.

The Compressor
1. If you replace the above items and the compressor is not running the the problem is the compressor. This will take a licensed HVAC person to replace.

The above parts are inexpensive between $30-$50 at your local appliance parts store. There is a 50/50 chance that this will work and save you the cost of replacing the compressor or the whole refrigerator.

Thank you for choosing FIxYa.com

Call the outfit that sold you the part and verify you have the correct one, if it is a suitable replacement ask about the extra wire.

Wiring diagram for whirlpool model et20dkxzn00

Check their technical website for diagram. 105 volts is a little low, but the timer should operate. I would suspect the timer or one of the components in the defrost system like the defrost heater, defrost safety thermostat.

Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator. GB22DKXJW01. Problem: Not defrosting. Initially showed defrost coil with open. Turns out that my fluke is dying/died. Coil is fine. Have a brand new one also...will try...

most likely it will be the defrost thermostat, you also have a timer down at the bottom right side i think where the condenser coil is.that also can be bad.it would be a good idea to change out the t-stat anyway so if your meter isn't working you can unplug the machine, cut the two wires going to the t-stat,wire them together, turn your timer to defrost with a regular screw driver, stick the driver blade into the middle of timer or you can turn this one by hand, turn it until the timer clicks and the evap fan motor stops,if the heater comes on you have a bad t-stat.call your local parts store, give them the model number and they will give you the part number.

I can't find the wiring diagram for my whirlpool refridgerator.... MOD.#ET19RKXFN01 SER.#EG3222178. Can you please help. I need to change the defrost timer.....Thanks

I will try to locate a wiring diagram for your model ET19RKXFN01 but to change the defrost timer you will only need to know its location. Here is a link to the repair parts=> ET19RKXFN01_Repair_Parts_List
Go to page 5 of the repair parts list and you will see item number 4 Then on page 6 of the parts list you will see the timer part number beside the item 4. That is your defrost timer part number 2193084 Defrost Timer

Your refrigerator is an older model and may have the wiring digram in a packet behind the kick plate in the front near floor. Changing the defrost timer will not require use of a wiring diagram. Simply remove the old timer and replace the new defrost timer by plugging it into the wiring harness. The defrost timer can be found behind the control panel inside the fresh food compartment where the controls are located above the top shelf. If you have questions just let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

YOU HAVE A TIMER IN YOUR MACHINE PART NUMBER 2188379,WITH A SCREW DRIVER TURN IT SLOWLY TILL YOU HEAR A CLICK,YOU MANUALLY PUT IT INTO DEFROST,WITH THE BACK INSIDE WALL OF THE FREEZER REMOVED THE HEATER SHOULD COME ON,IF IT DOESN'T MOST LIKELY CAUSE WILL BE THE DEFROST THERMOSTAT LOCATED ON TOP OF THE EVAP COIL,IF YOU HAVE A METER YOU CAN CHECK IT BUT WHEN YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO CHANGE OUT THE T-STAT ANYWAY,YOU CAN UNPLUG THE MACHINE,CUT THE TWO WIRES CLOSE TO THE T-STAT AND CONNECT THEM TOGETHER,PLUG IT BACK IN AND TURN THE TIMER INTO DEFROST,IF THE HEATER COMES ON YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A BAD T-STAT PART NUMBER 2321799 AND IT'S AROUND 27 DOLLARS,YOU HAVE A CALROD HEATER IN YOUR MACHINE AND THEY HARDLY GO PART 2313330 AND IT'S AROUND 25 DOLLARS.THE TIMER IS LOCATED IN THE FRESH FOOD SECTION ON THE RIGHT WHERE THE CONTROLS AREhttp://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Whirlpool-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-3XART731GB01/1198/0165000/W0212020/00009?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

This refrigerator has a basic wiring diagram showing power going through the defrost timer, compressor and compressor start components. Because the model number could be very close to the ET8WTKXK your model may have either a ADC, adaptive defrost control or typical 482493 Defrost Timer

I will give the wiring diagram a try but your refrigerator has a simple defrost timer that is most likely the reason for your problem. Give me a few moments and I will give you a photo. Inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel is where the timer is located. Sea Breeze

Refrigerator and freezer not working

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, ie defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Freezer way too cold, refrigerator side too warm on side by side.

This can be caused by lots of faults first inspect the evaporator in the back of the freezer for ice build up if this is the case the defrost system has a fault, if not the unit that opens between the wall of the freezer and the fridge may be faulty check for the grills opening and closing
