Re: Philips Magnavox TP2784C TV always powers up to...
Your TV will reset to whatever channel you last had it on when you were using the basic- antenna or non-digital cable- line. Switch to that line, set the channel that you wish your television to open to, and it ought to open there each and every time.
If this does not work, occasionally, the set will reset to the station used in the auto segment of the time setting program. To see if it will reset, switch to the time setting program, choose the "auto" optoion, then, when it asks for the station where it can find current time, choose the channel you would like to set to open on each time. Let the time program run through its completion. Unless the station you choose just happens to be one that transmits the current time, allow the program to complete until it reaches it fail point. Go back to your usual viewing channel, turn the set off, then on, and see if it reset.

Hi. It's really necessary to have the original remote. All so called replacment do not have the "menu" button. In Philips TV's access code is not rquired. In your case, some channels are "whiped" and cannot be recalled. If you can go into setup-menu, things can be rearranged. There are numerous web-shops where you can buy an orignal remote. I recently bought an original remote for my DVD player. This however was at an on-line shop in Belgium. Just surch for Pilips on line shops in your country. Good luck.
1.Turn the television set on by pressing the "Power" button on the set.
2. Find the "Code Search" button on the Philips Magnavox remote. This
button will be labeled or will be a different color than the other
buttons on the remote (depending on which Philips Magnavox remote you
3. Hold the "Code Search" button down for about ten straight seconds. The
light on the Philips Magnavox remote should then stay on.
4. Starting pressing either the "Up" or "Down" channel button on the
Philips Magnavox remote. Continue pressing the same button until the
television responds to the remote. It could take a few minutes for the
channel to change so you'll need to have patience when searching for the
remote code in this manner.
5. Press the power button on the Philips Magnavox remote once the channel
has changes. If the device shuts off, press the power button again to
turn the TV back on. If the TV turns on, the remote has been programmed
correctly. Repeat the entire process if your remote is not programmed.
Unfortunately, that function is simply too advanced to access any other way but through an
appropriate remote control unit. As this is such a highly sought TV by audiophiles who want an excellent listening experience for their older audio-DVDs, this remote control is readily available. One can buy a replacement, either a used
original remote (model RCU81B) for between $8- $40 on eBay and other such sites, or
brand new, for between $30- $35 through several different remote
replacement companies. Simply search the words "Philips Magnavox
RCU81B" to locate such sellers. You also have the choice of buying a clone- brand new,
of course- for around $20. Most sellers of remotes on sites like eBay do warrant their used products, so there is no real reason not to go that route.
I just ran a
quick check of an eBay seller with a $7.99 original remote, and not only
does it look great, but it comes with a 100% guarantee. To
get full functionality of your TV back, especially for one that offers
as options as the TP2784C, that is a very small amount of money to pay. The seller
even offers a "Best Offer" option, so who knows, you might try offering him $5 and see if he is willing to go for it!
On this set, the volume buttons are the same as the menu button on your remote. The two channel buttons work the same as the scrolling arrows on your remote. It will take some practice, but to turn on the menu, press both volume buttons at once. Then practice using the volume controls to scroll. Once you have the hang of it, you can simply use these four buttons the same way you would have used your remote. If you cannot figure it out on your own, come back here, let me know, and I will sit down and map it out completely for you.
I called Philips Magnavox at 1 888 744 5477 and they told me the default ACCESS CODE number is 0711. It works on my TV though it didn't solve MY problem of the TV defaulting to Chanel 9 every time I turn it on. Drats. Hope this helps.
You are right about the auto-programming, but Magnavox no longer has the original remote.
For my answer to be right, you must have posted this question to the EXACT CORRECT model # of your Magnavox TV - 27ms343s:
Press TV on your Verizon remote, and then press "0" and "3"
If that fails: Press MENU to see the TV’s on-screen menu. In the menu, use VOL.+/_ and CH.+/_ to make adjustments or selections. You can press MENU on either the remote control or the front of the TV to access or remove the menu.
