I need to replace the pilot assembly. Are they all interchangeable

Yes and no. The idea is the same, but the way they are mounted can be different, and the sizes of the screw fittings at the end can be different.

You can not do this job yourself anyway. All gas repairs have to done by a suitably qualified gas fitter. Why? Booom!

Alternative Heating Pellet Stoves and Pellet Inserts

Pellet stoves usually use wood pellets as their primary heat source. A pellet stove is defined as a stove that burns either compressed wood or biomass pellets to make heat to warm a home or other space.

Pellet stoves come as either free-standing units or fireplace pellet inserts which can be vented into an existing chimney. As an insert, you are able to replace your wood burning stove with this efficient and cost effect stove. Inserts also give the homeowner more of the look of a fireplace than that of a pellet stove. Pellet inserts can also be a great alternative for people who have busy lifestyles and are looking to get the beauty of a fire but prefer a cleaner burning renewable heat source.

Pellet stoves are freestanding structures that can give you the feeling that an old pot bellied stove did, tucked into a corner of a living room, den, or kitchen. Either the pellet inserts or freestanding stoves are a great alternative heating solution for keeping a house warm during the winter.

Many stove manufacturers recommend the using a corn and pellet mixture, but some are UL listed for many fuels other than pellets. These can include wheat, corn, sunflower seeds, and cherry pits.

Pellet stoves are a bit more efficient, burn cleaner, and are easier to use than conventional wood burning stoves. Pellet stoves often look very similar to wood stoves or fireplace inserts, however the similarities end there.

If you are considering burning alternative fuels then you will want to look into a pellet stove as a great way to heat your home. Pellet stoves and pellet insets have many great advantages over regular wood stoves that make them a practical heat for busy lifestyles.

Fan kit will not fit into sequoia opening

You will need to cut back the mortar from the front so you can install the fan kit. If you want to try and do it yourself you will need a masonry blade (diamond blade) on a skill saw and set your thickness on your skill saw to very thin so you don't cut into the fireplace.
Other option is to get a chisel, depending on how much overlaps onto the face, and chip it all back.
You are correct that if you do not get the mortar off of the front to where you can open the front you will not be able to install the fan kit. You can pull up this installation manual at this website http://vermontcastings.com/family/Fireplaces/Wood-Burning/Sequoia/
Good luck. Vermont Castings

My Majestic gas fireplace pilot stays lit. But the burner does not light when heat is called for.

Check a safety device called thermopile which the two wires connected to the unit needs to be around 500mV to open gas. This part is between 35-50$ If that is not the problem, you may need to replace unit gas valve.

Find spare and repair manual for intrepid wood stove

Alex, I don't know how old your Vermont Castings Intrepid wood stove is, but the only available Owner's Manual is for their fairly new model Intrepid II wood stove.

A little quick history. Vermont Castings was an independent company 10 years ago, that was bought up by Majestic (FMC) Fireplace Company of Canada. About 5 years ago, Majestic went belly up and the VC line was purchased by Monesson Hearth Products. There have been some improvements to their wood stoves in the past couple of years, so as to meet the new EPA Requirements. So, this manual may show some things your stove doesn't have.

Hope this helps you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Want to know what the knob at the bottom left corner does? It looks like it opens a air vent. This is for a Majestic fireplace. Model no. 18103269 about 21years old. New home owner.

It may be similar to the Dutch West wood burning stove. The air from two front inlet flap opennings at the left and right of the glass door direct air upward and then inward at the top of the flame. This is intended to swirl the flame back so that it actually revolves in there before coming back and up the hole up into the top mounted reaction chamber where the platinum particles in the fiberous ring cause a catalyst type reaction of unburned gas. The main damper has to be closed to do this. You have to watch the flame to make it happen with the adjustment and the fire has to be up to about 350 degrees F. Because you are now making the flame roll around in there you will find the whole unit starts to snap with more heat output and if you use a magnetic KEL stovepipe thermometer it will shoot up to 420 degrees in 15 seconds so be ready to reduce the air to control your fire. Anything above 450 F. is dangerous, uses too much fuel and might send flames up to the creosote in the chimney. A clean chimney is fairly safe but the stainless steel ones with mineral asbestos lining by SELKIRK CANADA are the best as they will allow a fair number of seconds of CREOSOTE BURN which is kind of dangerous and can spit flame balls on to your roof, burning up cedar shake roof material before you can get up there with a garden hose and extinguisher.
