Don't try! The whole point of "security" is to _ONLY_ open those ports that your system needs.

If you really think that you must do it, read about the 'DMZ' ("De- Militarized Zone") feature of your router.

I am trying to open the router ports to allow a ps3 to connect. when i try to play call of duty:modern warfare 2, i keep losing the connection. can you help me open the ports and configure the settings?

Some times you will need to open the Logical Ports on the router.
These are the logical ports.
For this you will need to open the set up interface of the router.
Once you open the set up interface of the router, you will be able to find the settings on the router where you can open the ports for the particular program.

If you are opening the ports for a special device in your network, then you must know the IP address of that device.
For example, wireless camera, DVR, X-box, Play station ...
You can choose the option PORT FORWARDING for a special device application.
If you just want to open the ports for all the network, then you can choose PORT TRIGGERING

For example ,
You have a Linksys wireless router and you want to open the ports for the X-box.
You have opened the set up interface of the router. You will see Application and Gaming TAB at the top.
If you click on that tab you will find different Sub tabs.
Click on Port Triggering => Here you can open the port numbers for the network.
Click On Port forwarding if you want to open the ports for a special device in the network.
Click Save settings once you open the ports on the router.

Some of the recommended port numbers for different applications :

IMAP ==> 143 SMTP : 25
HTTPS ==> 443 HTTP : 80
DNS ==> 53 FTP : 21
SNMP ==> 161 TELNET : 23
XBOX ==> 53, 80-88, 3074
PS3 ==> 80, 443-447 ,5223, 3478-3479, 3658, 10070-10080.
WII ==> 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, 443
VPN ==> 1723, 500, 443-447, 10000-20000
World of Wars ==> 3724, 6112, 6881 - 6999

At the front of computer, the 2 usb are not working

Hello

If you have recently formatted or opened your case, this might just be a case of some wires not pluged in correctly, or chipset drivers not installed. Try installing chipset drivers again, if that does not work open your case and trace the wires back from the front panel and plug them out and back in again. Really hope this can help you.Please rate this.

Change NAT to open

The ports should be opened only in the router not in the x.box, go to a working pc..

answer3.gif
To allow traffic from the internet to enter your local network, you will need to open up ports or the router will block the request.

Because our routers use NAT (Network Address Translation), you can only open a specific port or ports to one computer at a time. For example: If you have 2 web servers on your network, you cannot open port 80 to both computers. You will need to configure 1 of the web servers to use port 81. Now you can open port 80 to the first computer and then open port 81 to the other computer.

  • Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default).

    Step 2 Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.

    Step 3 Check Enabled to activate entry.

    Step 4 Enter a name for your virtual server entry.

    Step 5 Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer on your local network that you want to allow the incoming service to.
  • to check ip in your pc.. go to start menu click run.. type cmd and hit ok
  • in the black window enter ipconfig and hit enter, you will find the ip address

    Step 6 Choose Protocol Type - either TCP, UDP, or both. If you are not sure, select both.

    Step 7 Enter the port information next to Private Port and Public Port. The private and public ports are usually the same. The public port is the port seen from the WAN side, and the private port is the port being used by the application on the computer within your local network.

    Step 8 Enter the Schedule information.

    Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue.
  • This would fix your problem..
