Buy a new gasket and install with some sort of gasket lube.
Selector (rotary) valve operation: Do not move selector valve unless pump is off, and always move in a clockwise direction.
'Waste' selection bypasses filter completely and sends water directly out of pool backwash port

I JUST REPLACED MY HAYWARD SP0714C SPIDER GASKET AND NOW THE BACKWASH PORT IS LEAKING LOTS OF WATER WHEN ON THE FILTRATION SETTING. WHAT DO I DO?

The spider gasket did not seat properly!
Take it apart and try again.
get the inside of the valve body completely dry, and make sure the grooves in which the gasket seats, are completely cleaned and free of any old sealant or gasket material.
Then apply a little bit of Silicone sealant, not much, into that groove. Then reassemble. Do NOT turn pump on for at least 8 hours to provide time for the silicone to cure, then try it.
Hopefully this helps you.
Good Luck.

When I was moving the handle to backwash I couldn't hardly move it and after I moved it back to filtration position the water wouldn't stop running through the drain hose.

This problem occurs when the "spider" gasket inside the multiport valve fails. This repair can be done by a homeowner but requires a few things. 2 c-clamps, the new spider gasket, and chlorine safe adhesive/caulk to seat the gasket.

I dont know what model multi-port valve you have as there are 3 model that fit on this filter. Here is the link to haywards manual site where you can find a manual on your filter, and your valve that will list instructions and part numbers.

Hope this helps

Wicor high rate sand filter P20. When I have it on "filter" there seems to be some water starting to leak from "backwash" hose.I only let it run maybe 30 seconds. Not looking for it to blow out any seals...

If it has a multiport valve, most likely the spider gasket inside has damage or has come out of place. A broken stem spring can also cause water to bypass out the backwash due to not having enough force to seat the seal. Take the multiport apart and check the spider gasket and spring.

Water is coming out of backwash hose while in filter mode?

The gasket inside the valve is likely rolled out of place allowing water out of the backwash port. It may be salvagable if you reseat it. Otherwise it will need to be replaced.
