Dont waht to get ripped off by paying 1200 dollars for a 100 dollar motor

I have a carrier heat pump air handler central system. the ecm apparently failed on the motor. looking at having to spend over a thousand to replace this 100 dollar motor. motor itself still looks fine. how do i wire around this ecm and circuit board in my air handler so that i can control everything from my thermostat just like in the good old days? i can get anything i need to do this. sequencers, relays, time delays, etc

system is over 12 years old. i dont need to worry about a warranty. from what i have read, this ecm is designed by ge to fail after warranty runs out. usually a thermister burns out. i believe in mine, it is the capacitors. motor "looks" fine. there is no way this motor should cost anywhere near this price, electronics or not. i can buy a tv set with a lot more electronics in it for 100.00. i can buy motors all day long for around 100.00. i seriously doubt it would affect my homeowners insurance. i work for the fire department, have done a lot of subcontracting in various fields and have always tried to repair everything i can. the bottom line is, this system still just has a thermostat that controls a fan motor, heat strips and a heat pump. there are a lot of systems that do not use this ecm. obviously, any money this system may have saved me on my electric bill will have been voided by paying 1100.00 for that 100.00 motor.. this system uses the same sequencers, snap discs, heat pump connections, and heat strips that are found in the grainger catalog for the dayton air handler. i may need a relay or two, i need capacitors. i do not know if i need "run" or "start". i think i need run. i may even need the dayton circuit board to hook my thermostat wiring into. thank you for any additional help.

IF you were to succeed in this effort you would void any warranty on your furnace and void your homeowners insurance. The "top of the line" furnace has a "top of the line" price tag for repairs. Are they sure it's the ECM controller? often it's the board. hardly ever the motor. Can be difficult to diagnose properly (especially if you don't have the Carrier/Bryant tester).

1. Power off at disconnect 2. Install a fan relay, hook low voltage wire (usually Green) from thermostat to relay on low volt terminals and t-stat common. Fan wires, one goes to one of the load terminals, one goes to the relay, then from relay to load.

Heating elements not energizing on Goodman AFUE 60 air handler

FIRST i would use a multi meter and check elements for power. one or more may not be working. SECOND iwould check sequenser . also look for burnt wires at element and throughout. probably sequensor they are usually under 20 dollars. the wires on very bottom of sequensor should have 24 volts when heat is on.

During the heat of the day (100 degrees) the compressor shuts off. had the coolant checked, the presures checked, cleaned the air handler and outside coils.

You either have a compress overheat issue or there is a problem with the control box either next to your heat exchanger.

I have a 2008 ICP air handler installed and it is not working, when you turn the termostat to ON or to fan ON the fan inside the air handler move like an inch ahead and then an inch back, and keep doing...

You have an ECM motor. It is normal for the motor to rock back and forth when it is trying to start.
It is trying to determine which direction it needs to go. However it should start after a short while.
Since this is a 2008, the motor and contol module are under warranty. Labor to repair it is not.
These are very expensive (approx $1200) so i would recommend having the contractor that installed the unit do the warranty work.
There are very few technicians that know how to troubleshoot ECM motors. So don't be afraid to ask if they are proficient at diagnosing ecm problems.
An expert technician will have a testing unit to diagnose the ECM motor. This allows testing of all functions of the motor. The testing equipment allows the wiring from the board to be plugged into the tester and then a harness from the tester is plugged into the motor. The motor can be completely controlled with the testing unit.
Over 40% of the motors on the ECM assembly are replaced when only the module was bad.
They will not warranty the product if they know you have tampered with the assembly.
I would suggest you very carefully replace everything you took apart and pay special attention to the motor orientation in the bracket. There is a specific position the motor and wiring harness must be in to prevent moisture problems.
Then call the heating and air contractor that installed the air handler.
Hope this helps.

I'm installing a Honeywell Thermostat RTH2410. In Step 1 you need to identify the system type. I have a Carrier Heat Pump model FA4BNF030. Is this a heat pump with or without auxiliary/backup heat?

Auxiliary heat is electric heat that is put into the air handler on the inside of the house. Its used when your heat pump doesn't provide enough heat, but heat strips are not always used. To see if you have auxiliary heat, look inside and see if you have breakers on the front panel of the air handler or anywhere close. No breakers, no electric heat. Hope this helps!

How do i put freon in my central heat and air my central heat and air unit is a payne

This job is best done by service tech. You have to know what your doing to be able to charge a system. Plus you have to have EPA card to handle Refrigerant. You need to call service tech. Remember if you have to put gas in there isa leak. Make sure they look for one if you ahve it recharged. A unit can run forever on the same gas. Cost of chargeing an AC can very from 100 to 300 dollars. My suggestion is to ask for a free estimate. So you know up front what it will cost. Rus

Carrier thermostat reading stuck on 50 but doesn't work

If it is Carrier tstat. Some have resets other dont. Kill power to insid unit. WAit five minutes turn back on. If it has batteries take them out. But the storm may have damaged the tstat. I had a thunderstorm damage 11 tstats in one building. You can buy a tsta at Home depot that will work and they are easy to wire. Just make sure you get the coorect tstat. If the unit is straight cool electric thats the easy one. A heat pump you need a Tsta with two stage heat one stage cool. You can pick one up for about 25 to 30 dollars. Please call back for more help be glad to assist.Rusty
