Connect it to the computer, then try to switch it on by pressing the button for 1-2 seconds. If it switches on, connect to tomtom home, update, and then switch off. Disconnect, then switch on again. You may have to reset it again by pressing the button for 10-15 seconds. I onl had this problem once, after my first download from tomtom home - I think I crammed too much info into its memory!

If you have a tom tom from the GO models
they hace a reset button you can press with a pin were the mount fits.
When you plug in the charger the green light should come on to say it is chargeing.
Try the car adapter to charge the tom tom
The problem was two fold. First the diode D8 was blown and also the power supply chip was blown.
It is a tricky job, using surface mounted components so should not be attempted by a novice but I managed it.
I have a full set of photos etc if anyone cares to try it. I figured -
NOTHING to loose!! so what the heck and just went for it. Taking it
apart was fun! The surface mounted IC was easy to obtain and the total
cost was about £10 plus 4 hours panic labour. If anyone wants the info
just let me know and I will send the photos - but no promises - it
worked for me.I
figured out this ongoing problem. I purchased my TomTom One second
edition 1/20/07 for $395. I was 30 days past my warranty and had the
problem of unit not turning on. Green light came on when charged.
I opened my unit up and found the sw2 micro switch broken. If you press
too hard on the on/off button, this will eventually happen.
I couldn't find a replacement switch so I wired my own switch and it works now.
Turn on the unit and than it will be recognized by the computer. The green light will light with the system in the off position as it indicates the unit is charging recieving power, just press the on button and the display should come alive.
try the usb cable to your. this is the recommended method to charge a tomtom when it wont power on. for reasons unexplained by tomtom they do not recommend the car or house charges.
plug it in via the usb cable to your computer for a few hours(make sure the green light is on and nice and bright) then press and hold the power button(this could take up to 20 seconds)
The reset button is on the bottom of your device. On my older model XL it is just above the sd card slot. If you have the newer model XL 330 then you have to hold down the on/off switch for 20 seconds to do a reboot. If you have not used it in a while let it charge for 30 monutes before doing a reset.
Hope this helps
I had this problem. had it plugged in charging and then pressed the the reset and the power button at the same time for about 30-50 seconds and then after that pressed the power button and so far so good
