I will make a couple of assumptions on you setup. First, you have some type of highspeed internet. You have a retail type router/firewall plugged into your internet modem. You are using a VPN Client software installed on a PC or Laptop. By stating that when you connected using your Ethernet cable, you were plugged directly into the Internet modem.

Basically, what you have here is a configuration issue with your Router/Firewall. I use the Cisco VPN Client Software from home. This software uses UDP over TCP port 10000. Your VPN Client will use something along this line as well. So, you need to do one of two things here. Determine what Protocol and Port your VPN software uses. Login into you Router/Firewall and add that to your outbound allowed traffic. Or login into your Router/Firewall and configure it to allow all outbound traffic.

If you are not sure how to do this, the documentation that came with your Router should contain a Tech Support number to call. They can walk you through this in short order. Otherwise, post your EXACT make and model of your Router/Firewall and I will try to get the information for you.

You may be able to use a vpn service if they aren't blocking that also. I have used the free version of http://proxpn.com but not out of the us. Basically you tunnel your internet browsing to another country so it goes from where ever the vpn pops out to the website and there is no uae firewall inbetween.

Netgear blocks vpn


Use the web interface to administrate settings.


Netgear:
192.168.1.1
user: admin
password: password or 1234


Go to Advance > Default DMZ Server and enter the computers IP that needs VPN access. This will bypass routers NAT / Firewall, and allow all network ports access.

I would suggest going to the site above and read more on configuring your device. It sounds like your VPN firewall is blocking your browser from accessing the web interface.

I used to connect VPN but suddenly DIR-655 is having probelm connecting to my office VPN. I can connect of any other web sites except VPN connection


Using VPN proxy http://www.bestcheapvpnservice.com/cheap-vpn-proxy/ will enable you to unblock websites and bypass blocking easly with simple software just pressing connect to open blocking and disconnect to block sites again

Resolutions: 1) if you have firewall, open TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE). 2) make sure you can reach the VPN server by using ping. Sometimes, poor connection can cause this issue too. 3) You may need to updated firmware on a router or firewall if other OS (win9x/nt/me/w2k) works except XP. 4) The VPN server may not be able to get IP from DHCP for the VPN client. So, you may want to re-configure VPN host networking settings. For XP pro VPN host, go to the Properties of the VPN>Network, check Specify TCP/IP address and Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address, and uncheck Assign TCP/IP addresses automatically using DHCP. 5) Make sure no other secure software blocks your access, for example, if you use Norton secure software, you may need to add the remote client's IP so that the client can access. 6) If your VPN running on a Windows RRAS with NAT enabled, you may want to check the NAT settings. 7) If you can establish the VPN from the desktop at home but not from the laptop. Make sure no security software like Microsoft OneCare software that blocks the GRE.
