Your system may be powering on, but it's not starting up. This might be due to the power supply, memory or system board. Start by making sure your memory modules are firmly seated and latched into their sockets. Then substitute a known good power supply to make sure that's not the issue. Finally suspect the mother board. A system that doesn't start is a common problem when the board is bad.

Screen not working

Does it seem like the laptop booted up all the way except the screen is black? Do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning? If so try the steps below.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

The monitor is a samsung syncmaster 920MW. It works when I turn it on, but then after three seconds it cuts off. The power indicator LED is still green. However the display is blank (as if the monitor were...

this is usually a short that reacts to heat. as it runs and warms up it shorts, then it cools, etc, etc. I would just replace the monitor. With the black friday deals you should be able to get a flat screen for under a hundred dollars.
best of luck

You have PC problem nto monitor problem since you can see the mouse.
Try booting in safe mode (hit F8) while booting up then go to system restore and set it back to the date you remember before the problem started.
Did you installed any new software or updates before this problem started?

Hold down the power button for about 6 seconds continuously, this should wake it.

Acer al1711 shows only a white screen

These are pretty old now but I'll respond anyhow-
When there is absolutely no screen content and white, it means that ALL pixels are turned off; black, means all are turned on. If you have a white screen, it means that a component in the video stream has failed; a black screen (preferable failure!) often means that the backlight lamp or its inverter have failed. The latter is a potential DIY fix, a dead IC in the video path normally not since most of the signal chips (ICs) are placed and soldered by robots and the pin spacing on those is pretty much beyond the capabilites of an untrained hand.
The only exception I can think of is if the ICs no longer have voltage supplied to them from the main power supply but you would need at least a cheap multimeter to locate that.

Monitor not receiving data from computer?

If you did not hear any beep from your CPU, then the problem is in the system not the screen.
Try connecting the screen to another computer and try also a working screen of a friend to your computer...
You'll find out that either the screen or the computer...

Good luck... post me back for your result.
Don't forget to rate too.
Thanks...
