Question about Acer AL2216W LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Resolution not available

I have 3 acer AL2216W monitors on 3 identical IBM ThinkCentre's. One gives me the native 1680x1050 resolution, but I can't get it on the other two, even after updating the drivers with the identical driver versions. Specs: WinXP Pro Intel 82865G video adapter Thanks for any help I can get.

They will only let me get to 1600x1200. All of the other resolutions look fuzzy, but the native resolution of 1680x1050 that I get on the working computer/monitor looks great. Even when unchecking the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" box, the list of modes skips right over the 1680x1050 resolution.

I couldn't find on Intel's website where they listed all the modes supported for the 82865G, but I did get it working on one of my other machines now. What I did on that one was just update the display adapter driver and reboot, then update the pnp monitor driver with the downloaded one from Acer. And voila! Two down, one to go. I've updated the drivers already on the last machine, but I think I need to uninstall the other pnp/default monitor driver so the Acer is the only one listed. I'll try that next. Thanks.

Well, the third computer problem was actually a VGA extension cable issue. By using a cheap extension cable, the EDID data wasn't getting read by the graphics adapter. Removed the cable and all was happy. 8 hours down the drain, but oh well.

Hi, I don't mean to sound doubtful, but are you sure that the 1 IBM that's working uses the same Intel video adapter? The 82865G video adapter doesn't support 1680x1050 as a resolution (according to the Intel specs). If your other IBM machine is correctly displaying this video resolution, it may have an add-on video card or not the 82865G. Could you confirm the model of video adapter in all 3 machines? Did you buy all 3 machines at the same time with the same hardware build?

what resolution can you get on the other two? does the 1680x1050 resolution even appear as an option in the Disply Properties?

Please verify that you are running your PC video card with native resolution of this monitor, 1680x1050 @60Hz for best picture for this monitor.
Unless you may have problem inside the monitor or the video card itself, so try this monitor on another PC also.

You need to set your PC video output resolution to the native resolution of this monitor, which is 1680X1050 @60Hz.
Right click on the desk top, the display properties will come up, click on setting tab, then you will see resolution setting choice.

Hi There! My Acer x223w monitor is floating a "Input Not Supported" box that will not go away any suggestions?

The documentation for this monitor should list its supported resolutions, and you will need to attach another monitor that supports a greater (possibly lower or higher) range of resolutions and then set it to one of the supported resolutions for the monitor. The native resolution appears to be 1680x1050, although I cannot find online documentation directly from Acer.

Same problem, acer sucks imo

I think I may have fixed it but I haven't rebooted my computer yet. I uninstalled the latest ATI driver version 9.3 and then installed an older driver version 7.3. Monitor now turns on and off and gets signal every time so far. I'll post back if it the problem comes back after I reboot.

Resolution issues with Acer LCD al 2216w

Possibly this will help. I have installed two1680x1050 LCD screens this past year: your 2216W model on a new PC, and a similar model from another maker on my wife's older HP PC.

Mine worked at the native resolution, my wife's did not. Difference: the age of the computer's (actually Windows XP's) native software for monitors. I went to Control Panel, Display, Advanced, and slid the left-hand slider control to view the various resolutions available. On the newer computer, the highest resolution choice was 1680x1050. On the older computer, the choice was not given. The choices stopped somewhere areound 1270 by 1080.

Solution was to download the newer driver from (as I recall) the computer manufacturer's website, using their regular download/update channel. That gave my wife's older computer the necessary top-end resolution. It was not something the monitor manufacturer could have fixed.

Acer Monitor Display of text and image is not sharp

This might seem obvious, but is your video card output set to the native resolution on the monitor? If not, it will look fuzzy. Try 1680x1050, if you don't know the monitors native resolution.
No need to use anything higher than a 60hz refresh rate either.
