Question about RIM BlackBerry Curve 8310 Smartphone

1 Answer

My 8320 doesn't want to respond

When I use the trackball to select by pushing down (Clicking). I've tried replacing the trackball, deleting many programs to free up space, changing the theme to a factory supplied one. Any other thoughts, thanks.

This is becoming a huge problem and i am getting to swear off Blackberry for good.

I can scroll in all directions and use every other button on my 8310 but cannot select (click) the scroll button, it makes a click sound to show that the device is picking up the movement and you can feel it doin this (so theres nothing stuck or blocking the ball) but my phone is not letting my enter any submenus or aplications, i have got sms mesgs on my phone that i cannout read now and also cant make phonecalls to ppl unless they are already in my call list (pressin the green call button) this is becoming a real pain as i have now tryed everything and am gettin nowhere.

Usually the button membrane under the track ball goes bad. If you're out of warranty try to remove the trackball and push the membrane back in place if it became misaligned, clean it if necessary. There is a Blackberry Repair Guide that shows how to open a Blackberry and remove the track ball yourself. Once it is open it's as easy as peeling the membrane off the logic board, scratching its bottom with a flathead screwdriver. There are also third party blackberry repair services that will do this for you or supply you with a membrane if you need a new one.

I've purchased items from Truesupplier.com before and they provide excellent service.
You'll need to purchase another keyboard/housing and a trackball for your phone.
You'll need a T6/T4 screwdriver. This can be bought from Lowe's/Home Depot.
There are several videos on youtube that show the replacement of your housing.
This is the easiest way to fix your keyboard and trackball.

Curve 8330 has a trackball issue

Good evening!
Removing (or replacing) the trackball on the Blackberry phone is very easy.
Shut off your blackberry phone (I would take out the battery).
Quickly examine the trackball itself on your phone. Use something with a small tip, like a screwdriver (NOT A KNIFE! Could damage the mechanism), and slide it underneath the silver ring around the ball. Gently lift up, might also want to try lifting both sides to help lift it off.
Once off, set aside the silver ring. You should now see the trackball mechanism, to remove it, simply flip the phone over and it should just fall out (can also tap it a few times which helps). The mechanism is simply held in magnetically.
You should now be able to see where the trackball was. You can now take a cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and clean around in that area. If you examine, you will see small rollers around the trackball, you can also clean these.
This is the best way to clean the trackball. If all else fails you can replace the trackball. You can order one off amazon, they are very cheap, ranging from $2-10.
To put in the trackball, simply reverse the steps. The trackball device only goes in 2 ways, if it simply doesnt fit, turn it. It requires minimal force to put it back in. To put the silver ring back in, just match up the 3 little clips and gently push it back in.
Put the battery back in and give it a test.
Hope this helps!

Address book

Select the Address Book application from the main screen (with all the icons.) The address book icon is black and white in the default theme.
Press the "Menu" button (just left of the trackball)
Scroll up or down to "New Address" and push the trackball in (select the menu item.)
Fill in all the details that you have for the contact.
Press the "Menu" button again (left of the trackball)
Scroll up or down to "Save" and select it by pushing the trackball in.

Trackerball will go up and down, but when you are not able to select anthing.!

You can try these methods.

If you are having problems with your trackball, here are two ways to make it work better.
1: Take a deep breath and blow on the trackball area, rotate and do it again. This may blow any particles block the sensors.
2: This requires a Q-tip and some alcohol. Turn off your sidekick, wet the end of the q-tip, and gently clean the trackball while rotating. Be careful not to get the alcohol on anything but the trackball. Let dry for a minute and try it out. If this doesn’t work then try again.
