Question about GE Refrigerators

Open Question

I own an americana fridge - model #A3316ABSERWW, about 5 years old. For the past year, it has made a loud rumbling sound up in the freezer. The fridge still worked fine, just dealt with the loud noise (of the fan? whatever the problem is) ...because i didn't want to spend hundreds on a repair. Now, I'm noticing that there are little black flakes in the freezer...as if the fan is chewing something up and spitting it into the freezer portion. Any idea what the problem might be? Can I continue to live with it? Is there a serious issue? Is it dangerous? Please advise - thank you! (great site!)

SOURCE: 12 year ol KitchenAid Superba 42 making a loud rumbling noise intermittantly.

Mine doing the same thing, but I think it is just a fan in the freezer section behind the metal panel in the back - sounds like the fan is out of balance. I can stop the fan=stops the noise.

SOURCE: compressor making a loud noise, freezer cannot cool

It sounds to me like the internal relief valve is lifting due to discharge pressure being to high such as it a system that is over charged with refrigerant. Have the system tested for pressures on high and low sides. If someone has serviced this unit recently there may be to much of a charge in the system. Also check the name place for the proper refrigerant and charge .

SOURCE: Sears Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Loud humming noise

That sound is usually your icemaker calling for water. you can turn off your icemaker by lifting the little arm on the icemaker. As the icemaker calls for water the valve will be activated and will hum. This sound is usually not very loud. If your valve is making that much noise you may consider replacing the valve. The part number for you water inlet valve is #2315533 The retail price is $60.18 . I do have these on hand and available to ship out today if you need one. Please just let me know. You may also consider replacing your filter if your refrigerator has one. Thanks and I hope this will fixYa

Hi GE top freezer fridge - 5 years old( no ice

Well for one thing that unit was manufactured 10 years ago. But it sounds like the defrost drain is clogged and the water is running down the inside of the unit. The evaporator (not condenser) is on the bottom of the freezer compartment. The bottom panel of the freezer comes out. They are a bit of a pain to do, but can be done.

Loud rumble sound, Vent hose vibration

That model of neptune dryer had a problem with the blower housings cracking. When the housing cracks, it binds forward into the blower wheel making a loud "rumble" noise and vibration. If you open the door and manually turn the drum and you hear a rubbing noise and feel alot of resistance, then you have a cracked blower housing and need to replace it. It is not an easy job to replace, so if your not familiar with dryers, you should have a technician replace it. Let me know if you have any further questions. shane
