Question about Epson Stylus RX500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

RX500 not printing two ink colors

I took two ink cartridges out of my printer and then left for a month on vacation.  When I came home I replaced the two cartridges, but they won't print.  I replaced again and still no luck.  I've tried cleaning the heads multiple times.  Please help!

The problem is that air has got into the spike where the carts would normally sit and dried the ink in the head. This will be very difficult to soften and will take much perseverance on your part.

Get a syringe and some ammoniated cleaning solution or cartridge flush. You get cartridge flush off ebay - I use the JR brand, but that is my personal preference.

Remove the ink cartridges. Take some kitchen paper and fold it up so you can lay it in the bottom of the cartridge carrier leaving the wicks (The spikes upon which the cartridges sit) accessible.

Take the syringe and fill it with the cleaning solution. With a torch look closely and notice the small holes in the top of the wicks. You are going to flush out these wicks with your cleaning solution and the needle of your syringe.

Push the needle of the syringe into the hole of the wick. DO NOT APPLY ANY PRESSURE when inserting the needle. Use no more than the weight of the loaded syringe. Once inserted, SLOWLY depress the plunger of the syringe to ejecta few ML's into the wick. Do this for each wick and then leave the machine for at least an hour.

Repeat this several times replacing the kitchen paper each time you do it. When the cleaning solution starts to run clean you can start to eject the fluid with a little more speed to wash it further into the head. Again leave for an hour each time. Once you are sure you have dissolved as much ink as  you are ever going to, you should proceed to do an intensive under head cleaning as per my previous post HERE. Also put a good amount of cleaning solution into the pump cap (the bit under the head when it is in the park position) and top it up as it seeps away.

Once that is complete and you are again sure you will not get it any cleaner, get a full set of brand new and GENUINE cartridges. DO NOT be tempted to use cheap compatible cartridges for this maintenance exercise. Put the new carts in and allow the machine to charge the ink. Keep an eye on the pump cap and keep topping it up with cleaning solution. If the solution does not get sucked out of the pump cap, then you have a further problem and you should let me know here so I can help you sort that.

Print a nozzle check and see how it looks. If it still shows some gaps, run a couple of cleaning cycles via the button panel and print another check pattern. If there is little improvement after a couple of cleaning cycles do another manual under head cleaning.

You will eventually get the print back. For future reference, if you are leaving the machine unused for a while - leave it with full genuine ink carts. The genuine carts have an anti coagulant that helps to stop the ink solidifying in the head.

I just want to print with the black ink, even though some of the colors are out of ink, so now my printer is giving me an error message and I cannot use the printer at all. How do I override this NOW...

Unfortunately you can't print anything unless you replace all the empty ink cartridges. There is no way to override it. Epson printers work that way, sadly!

first go to your start menu. Then click on Printer and Faxes. When there right click on your printer and select Properties. When this window opens go to the General tab; then go to the Color tab. There you will see a box that you can check for printing in Gray Scale Only. Check this. After you have checked it, you can then check Black only.

If you wish for this to remain that way until you replace the other colors, be sure to click on APPLY or it will only print the first thing that way. After you have replaced the ink cartridges, use the same tabs to cancel the gray scale selection!

Epson RX-500 ink's full but won't print

u just have to replace the refilled cartridges.and insert new orignal cartridges.this is a very common problem in epson printers that refilled cartridges work sometimes and sometimes insert new orignal cartridges to have good printouts.

Cannot get LCD screen to show Replace Ink message

try this

1. Make sure your unit is powered and not printing.

2. Press the SETUP button and then use the select arrows until you see REPLACE INK, then press the COLOR COPY button. The ink cartridges will move to the replacement position.

3. Lift up the unit's cover, to access the ink cartridges.

4. Pinch the tabs on the front and back of the cartridge, and lift it out of the printer.

5. Before removing the new cartridge from it's package, shake the cartridge 4-5 times. Do not shake the cartridge once it has been removed from the cartridge holder.

6. Lower the new cartridge into its holder, then press down on the top of the cartridge until it clicks in place. Caution: Don't touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge, as you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

7. Repeat steps 4-6 for any other ink cartridges that require replacement.

8. Once complete, please lower the scanner and press it down until it clicks into place. The EPSON Stylus RX500 begins charging the ink delivery system.

The On light flashes and the EPSON Stylus RX500 makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the On light stops flashing and stays on steady. At this point press COPY to move back to COPY mode.

Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus RX500 while the On light is flashing, unless the Stylus RX500 hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

Epson stylus photo RX500

Turn the printer off overnight and try the head cleaning process again. Leaving it unpowered for an extended period softens the ink and makes the cleaning more effective. It may require several cleaning cycles.

Print cartridge error

try to take out the ink cartridge and check if there are any leaks inside. check also if there is still ink left in the cartridge. have the ink cartridge replace and the printer cleaned.

I used some less expensive generic ink cartridges on my RX500 and had a similar experience with the black. If you're already using the Epson brand, done the head cleaning, realignment and nozzel checks, I'm not much help. Try Epson's support at their web site.
