You need to get a mechanic to check it, do not drive it in case fails completely, which would cost a lot more to repair.

Humming sound coming from rear of car

sounds like axle bearings to me...its front wheel drive so theres no differential in the rear, and it could be the brakes but not likely. check the bearings or make sure nothing is rubbing back there either

When driving there is a humming kind of sound that comes from the back, it sounds like rubbing against something.

Your most likely suspects could be;
1)Your gear box (rear axle)
2)Rear wheal bearings
3)Universal Joints
Based on what you described I'm leaning towards u-joints

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Im getting a rattle under the jeep. It sounds like metal hitting metal its not the exhaust for that is not hittig anything. it sounds like its to the rear. Someone said...

Your jeep has two upper and two lower control arms attached to the rear axle. They have rubber bushings where they bolt to the axle and to the body. If the bushings are badly deteriorated, you will get a metal to metal sound when hitting bumps. Have them all checked.

My dad has a pride celebrity xl scooter and keeps getting a noise similar to a rubbing noise from rear right wheel while driving, it sounds once for every rotation of the wheel, iv checked that nothing is...

The noise you are describing usually comes from the trans-axle and not from the motor/brake. Motor brake noise is usually continuous. Sounds like the trans-axle may be slightly bent on the right or rubbing internally. The easiest way to identify this is to block up the scooter and remove the rear cover. Look and listen to all the drivetrain components while the scooter is blocked up and running. If you hear rubbing at the end shaft as you describe you can try the following:
Loosen the trans-axle metal mounts that clamp the rubber sleeves over the trans-axle
Spray the rubber sleeves with silicone.
Re-torque the clamps after checking the alignment.
An overtightened or misaligned clamp can sometimes cause noise.
The brake/motor/transaxle has a prorated three year warranty so you should go through a Pride dealer for warranty repairs.
Sometimes you can get a noisy wheel on the key and key-way of the trans-axle shaft. It may be worthwhile to pull both rear wheels lubricate the shaft key-ways and keys and re-install the wheels. This can sometimes quiet a multitude of noises from the trans-axle. Depending on the age of the scooter you can do nothing, replace the brake/motor/transaxle parts individually, replace the complete assembly. I like to replace the entire assembly under warranty so there are no future problems. The rest of the repair depends on your insurance coverage or budget. Hope this helps.

Rear suspenison squeaks when body is twisted or flexed during turns into drive ways or parking lots. it sounds like metal rubbing against metal.

check your rearbushing on that rear suspenison.
or the brake backing plate could be rubbing against drum or rotor.

Sqealing at highway speed in the vicinity of left rear axle. Noise quits at slower speeds. Is related to road speed, not engine speed. If in park, and rev engine up to 2000, problem does not exist.

check the sheet metal backing plate and see if its rotted and rubbing on the rotor. very common on that model, im from ny and they only last 3-4 years here with the salt etc

4 wheel drive making funny noise -

Have you ever changed the front axle fluid level?  I noticed the same rubbing sound but only when I turn left or right in 4 wheel drive.  I don't hear it going straight.  I just changed my front axle fluid with synthetic mobile 1 synthetic SAE 75W-90.  I plan on changing the rear axle tomorrow with the same synthetic grade oil.  I will also change the transfer case sometime this week with dextron III.  My e-mail address is averion5496@yahoo.com if you want to follow up with my on my findings.  How difficult is it to change?  From a scale of 1 to 10, it was an 8.  Messy since you have to get the bottle above the hole.  I would purchase a manual oil pump which makes it less messy.  It took 2 quarts for the front axle with 75W-90.
