Question about Denon Audio Players & Recorders
I recently purchased a new DVD player. It only has HDMI and Digital Coaxial hookups. My Projector is on Component only (no HDMI). When I hook the DVD player to the Denon AVR 2007CI Receiver I tried to connect it to the Coax1 and Coax2 slot. Afterwards I assigned the Digital Input Assignment. I set the Component In Assignment to 1-RCA (DVD). I have set the Digital In Assign (3-1) to COAX1 for the DVD player. I still get no picture or sound. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
There might be several problems. As the projector has component only connections and the DVD player none, then if the Receiver has component out, you can hook it up to that. If the receiver has HDMI inputs then you can connect the DVD player via the HDMI socket to it. The Coax sockets on the DVD player will be for sound. Number one should be connected to Digital coax 1 and assigned for it.
It's possible that the sound on the DVD player is switched off on the coax or has the wrong format selected. You will need to see the player's menu for this, so if you can't see the screen using the projector, connect a TV instead.
However if the receiver has no component out and no HDMI sockets you will have real problems connecting the DVD and using the projector with it. Though you should be able to hear the sound via the Denon.

Normally the optical inputs are disabled unless specifically turned on. I dono't know your specific model. I'll research the model and update this with more specifics.

SOURCE: I have a Denon AVR2307
HDMI signal from DVD can not be down converted to analog component signal.
Connect your new DVD to a component input 1..4. Make sure that component input assigned to desired input (dvd/vcr/sat/) (setup - input setup - input - component assign - component x etc). Connect coax output of DVD to coax x input of the receiver and assign it (setup- input setup - "input" - digital assign ..). Probably you need to setup DVD output resolution to 720i or 720p in dvd setup menu.
