How do I lift the top off my Maytag washing machine?

There are two hinges at the back, just remove two screws on top then push the top toward the front about 1'' or 1.5'' then lift it up.

1) Unplug machine.
2) Use a putty knife or flat blade screwdriver and compress the clips located about 4" in on the front of your machine (there is one on each side) lift the top of your machine up.
3)Use flat blade screwdriver or 5/16" nut driver and remove the 2 screws holding the front panel on. Wearing gloves because there may be sharp edges and using care lifting, sit the panel aside.

The top lifts off, then you can see the area around the drum and tank. There are springs and dampers that hold the frame and the drum steady. Check to see if they are broken or loose.

I think the top lifts up. There should be two spring clips under the front edge of the top which you can pry out with a screwdriver wrapped in a wash rag to prevent damage to the finish of the washer.

your machine needs a new lid switch assembly!

When the machine worked would the machine stop in the wash cycle when you lift the lid? If so you might check your lid switch.

Open the top of the unit by placing a putty knife beween the top and the front panel about two inches in. There is a spring lock that you need to push in, then lift the top. Once you lift the top, you will see the lid switch. Remove and replace. Let me know if you need further help. Jim
