The human body can store up to 50,000 volts static electricity which is more than enough to fry components. MAKE SURE YOU ARE EARTHED! (1.): Switch power off at wall. Leave plugs in - (this will ensure that the computer is 'earthed'. (2.):Open box. (3.):Connect anti-static wrist-band alligator clip to bare metal frame of box - a bare screw head will do if you can not see any uncoated metal in the box). The password jumper has 3x sockets in a row. (4.):Move jumper plug to other 2x sockets to reset - (blank) - password. (5.): Remove anti-static clip. (6.): Close box cover. (7.): Power-on at wall. (8.): Reboot. If you want to reset a new Password, repeat above steps & move jumper-plug to other 2 sockets...when you reboot, you will be asked to enter new password. Hi, from your description it appears your power supply is ok. Remove your RAM chips, clean everything with a soft brush or a can of compressede air [from computer store] Reinstall the RAM making sure it is seated firmly. If this does not solve the problem, Are you using 1 or 2 RAM sticks? if 2 then remove them again and swap them around. stick one in dimm2 and stick 2 in dimm 1. If you only have one stick then beg or borrow another stick and try it. If all fails you may have developed a mobo problem. Regards mistyman

Open the case and locate the CMOS battery. Just nest to it should be a button or jumper. Press the button or remove the jumper, then start the machine.
If it's a jumper, turn the machine off once more and replace the jumper before continuing.

Have you checked your monitor? Try your monitor on another PC and check it is OK. Once you change the MB battery you effectively "Kill" the PC, as all the settings in the BIOS are removed and must be reprogrammed. You must enter the BIOS, and select "Default" setup and then reboot, you must do this regardless of what else is done first.(A bit hard when you can't see anything" You say... "tried different power switch and ribbon cable connector" (sic) exactly what "Ribbon cable/Power switch"? Anyway as said check monitor, if it is OK, we will proceed from there, then, you must check your video card, test it in another machine, if possible, to see if thats OK, if it is OK, then it is now likely that you may have a Mother board problem. If you can, try another Video card to see if you get Video on screen. see we need to establish "Known Good" items, once we know whats what, we can then go on. Now if any of these things tested are faulty, Monitor, Video card, obviously replace them, however IF they are NOT faulty, as related it may be the Motherboard, Remove the RAM, and see if anything is on screen? If yes, replace RAM, If still NO, then take any cards out, and check, if then OK, replace cards one by one until you get to the one that stops it, there is your problem, replace it. All we are trying to do is get anything on the screen, if we do, then you must redo the BIOS, as related before. Now if you get it going it still may not boot through to windows desktop, if this is the case, after you boot press F8 and select safe mode, when you get asked if you want safe mode or system restore, choose system restore and choose a date before you had a problem that should get you back. You just have to logically work through, until you find the faulty "bit" and replace it.

Almost all motherboards use a small coin sized CMOS battery to store
all BIOS settings along with the password. To reset the password, unplug
the PC, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30
minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as
the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings.
If it fails, then try to remove the battery for at least one hour.
B. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.

passwords. An example of a great utility to decrypt / bypass BIOS
passwords is the

Precaution: When inside the computer please be sure you're
aware of the potential damage that can be caused by ESD.
On the computer
motherboard locate the BIOS clear / password
jumper or dipswitch and change its position.
This jumper is often labeled CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, JCMOS1, CLR, CLRPWD, PASSWD, PASSWORD,
PSWD or PWD as shown in the picture to the right. To change the jumper simply
remove it from the two pins its currently on so that it covers the pin that is
not covered. For example, in the picture to the right pins 1 and 2 are covered,
you'd remove the jumper and put it on pins 2 and 3.
Once this jumper has been changed, turn on the computer
and the password should be cleared. Once cleared, turn the computer off
and return the jumper or dipswitch to its original position.
The location of the jumpers or dipswitches are dependent on the
manufacturer of the computer and motherboard. However, below are some general
ideas on where to find it. Remember that most motherboards could have dozens of
different jumpers, make sure you're changing the CMOS jumper and not something
else. If these general suggestions do not help refer to your motherboard /
computer documentation or skip to the next step.
the CMOS battery like the one shown in the picture to the right will cause the
system to loose all CMOS settings including the password. To do this locate and remove the
CMOS battery on the motherboard
for at least five-minutes. After this has been done put the battery back into
the computer and turn it back on.
Jump the CMOS solder beads
Older computers and especially older laptops don't have
or dipswitches and require the user to jump a pair of solder beads on a
board. The identification and location of these solder beads can vary
and if not available in computer documentation is only obtainable
through the computer manufacturer.
If you've identified the solder beads they can be jumped by
placing a flat-head screwdriver over the two beads and leaving it on those beads
while turning on the computer. Once the computer has booted turn off the
computer and then remove the screwdriver.
