Remove the tray and look at the wheels to be sure they are completely attached to the tray itself. If they are spray them with PAM or another cooking spray product to lubricate them.

Door will not shut when upper silverware holder is in

Make sure you are installing that silverware holder properly. The little tabs of the silverware holder are supposd to go over and around the mating bars of the upper rack. Barring that, your upper rack may be pulled (bent) out, and you may have to push it (hard) to get it back in shape.

Top rack automatically slides out upon opening door

Hi,

This is actually a feature to allow the user easy access of sliding out the top rack. A look at the parts diagram disclosed that there is no mechanism activating this and therefore could be assumed to be gravity driven. It would stop a few inches due to the action or rather inaction of the rollers which would require user intervention (pull).

The only modification I could think of is to change how the inner rails are attached by inclining it to prevent the sliding out. The idea would be to lean in the upper rack to prevent gravity from sliding it out. Am not sure if inclining the entire dishwasher would affect the overall performance but it is also a possibility.

I have taken the liberty of including the diagram of the upper track should you wish to reference it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

How to replace the top rollers on a GE dishwasher model # gsm1800nww

Lower Rack

  • Remove all of the dishes from the lower dishwasher rack.
  • Pull the lower rack out of the dishwasher so that it rests on the dishwasher door.
  • Lift the lower rack up and out of the dishwasher.
  • Place the new lower dishwasher rack on the dishwasher door, then push it into the dishwasher.
  • Upper Rack
  • Remove all of the dishes from the lower dishwasher rack.
  • Extend the upper rack as far as it will go.

Remove the two plastic end caps, located on the end of each dishwasher arm. To remove, insert a flat-head screwdriver between the arm and the tab on the outside of the end cap, then lift the tap to remove the end cap.
Pull the upper dishwasher rack straight of out the arms to remove.

Insert the rollers on the bottom of the new upper dishwasher rack into the rack arms, then push the rack completely into the dishwasher.
. Align the end caps with the ends of the arms, then push the end caps into place.

Upper Rack

  • Remove all of the dishes from the lower dishwasher rack.
  • Extend the upper rack as far as it will go.
  • Remove the two plastic end caps, located on the end of each dishwasher arm. To remove, insert a flat-head screwdriver between the arm and the tab on the outside of the end cap, then lift the tap to remove the end cap.
  • Pull the upper dishwasher rack straight of out the arms to remove.

I have a GE profile dishwasher. The wheels on the lower rack have all come off and I can't seem to get it back on. On some, the piece that snaps to the rack is either broken or melted off somehow. Do I...

You just need the wheels. I have bought the upper rack wheels before, now I need the lowers. I have found a site selling them at 10.00 each. I am going to keep looking, I think I can do better, considering I need 4. I might just buy a new washer if I have to spend 40.00 plus shipping! I will post back if I find a better deal.

Top rack will not pull out all the way

Replace the upper basket wheels - these are available as spares. If the metal runners look angled - it may be the wheels on the side of the dishwasher that need replacing. These are also available as a spare part.
Ebay is actually a good place to shop for spares of this type.

Just installed new dishwasher top rack will not slide in

I had the same problem with my new GE. They installed 2 brand new upper racks.$$ it worked ok for about a month and then I had to force it in again. on the 7th repair call in as many months my repair guy walked in the door stating that he finally knew how to fix the problem. It is caused by poor design in the wheels. they are porous and the detergent breaks them down and they swell. new wheels from an older model fixed the problem. they have RND on the case.

DISHWASHER TOP SHELF IS SQUEEKING AND STICKING.

One approach would be to apply plumbers grease to the wheel (simple) axles turn on. It would be if you can pull the wheels, apply the grease and reassemble the wheels. The plumbers grease can be bought in a tiny tin at any real hardware stores.

Longer term fix would be to replace the wheel assemblies with new/replacement parts.
