Lights go dim when rev engine

Hi, Anonymous if your headlight is not working, only one beam works, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
9. Weak charging alternator/generator.
10. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

Malibu lights system 8 yrs old and always a-ok. Other night, lights noticed to be super-dim. replaced 200 watt transformer with a new identical model. Lights powered up ok, but only about half...

Since it is uncommon for a power supply to vary, it is more likely there is a variable drain on the system, such as a nick in the insulation, variably grounding depending on soil moisture.

I would suggest isolating most of the circuit, and only plugging in one light at first, and then adding more until you find a change.

The other way to do it would be with an inductive ammeter or audible pick up, and trace the circuit, detecting a drop in current or sound right after the drain.

Only the fan mode works well, the a/c mode trips off whenever the compressor tries to start, giving a buzzing sound and causing the other lights in the house to dim. what do I do please?

Im sorry to say I believe its too late. but you can check things and it may just be melted wire .turn power off check disconnect wires then contactor wires then capacitor wires finally take cap off compressor check those wires possible that one will be burnt and can be replaced but if you dont find the cause it will get worse if all is good ohm compressor to check windings also see how dirty outdoor coil is please send me a vote and rating if you have any questions email to

Hi i have a timer outdoors running xmas lights its remote after i turn them off the lights are very dim i have to pull plug out before they go off ive had three timers so far the lights r led

This sounds like load leakage current through the timing device. The timers shown in the picture use electronic control components and do not turn the power all the way off like a light switch, especially if not grounded properly. This can cause issues with LED lights since they are basically diodes and can "leak" power in reverse bias.

Most of these timers have a three-prong plug - they should be plugged into a grounded, three prong outlet so the residual current is shunted off during the "off" cycle.

In plain English, the circuit should be grounded.

You could try another type of timer, like one meant for air conditioners or lamps - they use a basic on/off switch. However, these devices may not be rated for outdoor use so be careful.

Dim interior lights, power locks wont work......

Try looking at your battery. Check the cables to make sure they are tight and clean. Brush the corrosion off with a wire brush. Now, if you have a wiring schematic, find the ground for the interior lights and clean it up too. Oh, put vasoline on it, and the battery cables, to keep them corrosion free. Check the other grounds in the car cabin too.

Light dimming

BROTHER; It sounds like you have a ground issue, clean all of your elect. connections with CRC, lectamotive. This will clean out the dirt and old grease, then greasy the connections with DI-ELECTRIC GREASE, nothing else. If you use any other grease you will have a short and more elect. problems. Try that and GOOD LUCK......GREASY

DIM lights towards end of wire

you need a bigger supply. 14 lights at 20w each running in parallel is 280w.
if you are running anything bigger than that, then you need a supply at less 360w or better.
