Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

Cannot remember password for my Netgear WGT624 wireless router

I have two computers in my home. One computer has access to the modem from Verizon. The other computer had no way of running a cable to it, so I have been using one of those USB port wireless connectors. This Christmas, my mother got me a Netgear WGT624 wireless router so that my "wireless" computer could use my own internet, instead of piggybacking off of a neighbor's. I redid both the network name and password.

I had saved the name and password on the "wireless" computer when I attached the router to my modem, but about a week ago we had a thunderstorm and now, even though it will piggyback off of neighbors again, the second computer will not connect to my wireless router. I tried deleting it off of my system and re-entering it, but it seems I don't have the password anymore.

I know I have the net name correct since it was listed in my internet options every time I logged on over the past 5 months. Is there a way to access the router through the 1st computer (the one the modem is hooked up to) and figure out what I saved the password as, or a way to change the password so that I know what it is for the second computer?

I've looked on the internet for some sort of solution, but they all say "hard press and start over", but the router is still getting internet perfectly fine to the modem computer. Plus, I don't know how to "hard press restart" the router since I see no buttons anywhere.

Please help.

  • The default user name is: Admin
  • The default password: is password or (for older routers) 1234
Try the default username and password before resetting the router to the factory defaults.
When a router resets, it goes back to the state when it was new — all information that was entered by hand is lost! Examples are critical things you need to get online, such as ISP username, ISP password, IP addresses, security keys, and ports and services that were opened. It all needs to be re-entered.
So, have your ISP information before resetting the router.
Naturally, if you moved to a new city, or if you bought a used router, the old information in the router may not be of use to you. Contact your ISP if you can't connect any computer directly to the Internet. Then, if there is a connection problem when the router is added, see No Internet Access Through the Router
Reset for most routers with a reset button on the rear panel
Write down configuration information such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services, etc., that you modified. (The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)
  1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait for the router to reboot.
  4. Log in with the default password. If the router was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.
  5. Unplug the router's power.
  6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
  7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
  8. Wait for the router to reboot.
  9. Log in with the default password.

Commonly its a pin hole at the back of the unit with the tag RESET.

From the manual;
To restore the factory default configuration settings without knowing the administration password
or IP address, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router.
1. Press and hold the Default Reset button until the Test LED turns on (about 5 seconds).
2. Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.

Or view this link its a V3 for comparison.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wgt624v3_ref_manual_25Apr05.pdf

This will make its settings back to default.

Reset switch for this is near the antenna a small circular hole. Just read the manual on page 2-7.

Commonly resetting a router. Just the unit and the power supply. No other cable is attached to it. You will insert a small pin in hole (reset pin), hold, then attached the unit's power plug then count 5 seconds as your model says(see manual for other detail). Then release the pin. Detached power plug then reaattached it should be reset in its factory default. Then reconfigure again your settings.
