210 John Deere Garden Tractor PTO

Original Problem:

The PTO Lever on my 210 John Deere Garden Tractor has a 1 3/4 Inch free play when it is engaged. The play causes the mower blades to bog down and slip unless you bring the PTO lever back to the position where there is tension on it. Once the tension is on the PTO lever, it works fine. What should I do to eliminate the free play on the PTO lever.

What I did to try and correct the problem:

I did adjust the PTO linkage and the clutch but am still experiencing a problem and now still need to create tension on the PTO to make it work properly. Something else is still causing a problem so I still need to find out what that may be. Now to make it work properly, I have to bring the PTO lever slightly before the full-engaged position.

SOURCE: pto spis all the time on my 1989 john deere 420

Are the blades turning? If they are not, this is normal. The PTO is an electro magnetic clutch that engages when you apply electricity via the PTO switch. When it is disengaged, the bearings and top portion of the clutch will turn because it is coupled to the engine. If the blades ARE turning then you have a bad clutch and will need to repair or replace it

The drive belt may be broken, or it may have slipped off a pulley.

Hello, We have a John Deere 2140 Tractor with front end loader attachment. How do we engage the PTO, or where is lever. Thanks

You should have a round knob on your dash or console you pull it up turn it to the left or turn it to the left and slowly pull it up.

PTO CONTROLS. How do you engage and disengage PTO.

The tractor is not a 6300 is it.If it' not you need to adjust the cable for the p.t.o. until it will stay down.Don't turn the turnbuckle too much at a time because there is a fine line between the won't engage and the won,t disengage adjustment.

John deere 2010 tractor. pto grinds and wont engage

The PTO usually has a clutch that has to be engaged so that you can select the PTO rotation setting. I had a problem like that on my tractor and all it needed was a little adjustment on the PTO clutch lever, so it could disengage the PTO gearbox properly.
