Question about Tecumseh Enduro Horizontal Engine 5 HP 2532in x 2 2532in Tapered Sha

Open Question

Fuel pours out the air intake

Went to start my log splitter, initially started up, then choked out. Fuel started running out the air intake. Removed the air intake and noted fuel pouring out the brass tube above the choke plate on the front of the carb. How do I resolve this?

SOURCE: When I have the choke fully on, the engine in my snowblower runs. When I take it off choke, it sputters and stops. The fuel line is clear and there is no fuel filter that I can find.

The mixture settings on the carburetor may be off. Cleaning the carburetor and having the mixture settings adjusted may help. The fuel delivery is not an issue since choking increases the fuel/air ratio, i.e. adds more fuel for the same amount of air. Also worth checking the seals on the intake components, since excess air could be leaking in after the carburetor.

SOURCE: only runs with choke on

Make sure you put the carburetor back together properly. I did this once with a 25 h.p. Kohler. It had two flaps inside and somehow I reversed the flap.

Runs fine for few minutes then dies like running out of gas then choke it it starts runs then does it again over and over

You have a feeling issue..

By choking the engine, you restrict the airflow, thus reduce the amount of fuel being drawn through the carb, meaning it's burning a sufficient amount of fuel and air.

When the choke is off, it's getting too much air for what can be drawn through the carb, meaning you have a furlong issue.

Poulan 4218AV. I start it with choke fully open. It runs fairly fast, but when I move the choke to half, it runs wide open, as soon as I hit the throttle trigger it dies. Any suggestions besides wrapping...

Hello,

Yeah, your problem is that it is running lean (fuel), try changing the fuel by dumping the entire contents of the tank in to a oil pan, then check for water or trash. Second replace your fuel filter. Then mix some fresh fuel and try it again. Also double check the carburetor mounting fastners for tightness, if you have a loose carburetor it will act that way too. It **** too much air and runs lean.

Hope this helps,Matt

Truck will start only when gas is put in carburetor

Does it stay running when you get it started pouring the gas into the intake? If so I would replace the fuel filter or check the fuel line pressure where it goes into your intake.

If it doesn't stay running, I would look at replace the fuel pump.

Good Luck

1991 toyota 3L V6 Overfueling, raw fuel pouring out exhaust pipes

The valve cover gasket change is related only to the extent of needeing to remove something else . There is the fuel pressure regulator and the MAF SENSOR talks to the ECU telling the computer how much fuel is needed for proper mixture of thre air passing into the intake. It is the first sensor in the intake duct coming out of the sir filter. Make sure all the injectors are secure in wiring connection and look around for any other that had to be removed. All plugs mean it isn't just one injector. Unplug and replug the MAF. cHECK THE THROTTLE POSITIO SENSOT. iT RIGHT THERE where the fuel likage is attached.

Can't figure it out !!!!

Hi,

There are 2 major requirement for a gasoline engine to fire, fuel and ignition. Since you have spark, then ignition is the least likely problem. No fuel could be verified by removing the air cleaner and pouring a small amount of fuel down the throat, start the bike, if it start and runs (even for just a moment), you have verified the fuel problem.

Problems then could be traced along the fuel flow from the ank all the way to the carburator. In some instances of run out of fuel, the bike will have a hard time starting due to:
1. air bubbles in the fuel lines;
2. valve in carb stuck in close position;
3. flooding of both carb and intakes;
4. (in some cases) vacuum insifficient to open petcock or fuel valve/switch.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
