The shaft seal is the cup shaped seal between the auger and the shaft. it needs replacing on occasion. the message will come up every 6 months to make sure you check it. to clear the message- the "ultra", "gourmet" and "ice" word under the display are buttons. hold down "gourmet" for a few seconds to get into the menu then release. press "gourmet" until you get to "maintenance done" and select yes. press "gourmet" again until you get to "6 month" and select no. press gourmet until you get out of the menu and you're all set!

What does shaft maintenace due mean

It means your machine needs to have seals and bushings replaced. This maintenance should be performed twice per year to keep your Bunn Ultra 2 in working order. This is something you will need to call a technician in to do.

the word "gourmet" next to the display is a button. hold it down for a few seconds and you'll get into the menu. keep pressing and releasing "gourmet" until you get to "factory reset" and select yes. after that, you'll have to reset all the other settings like the clock and the defrost timer.

Oil coming out of back of machine

it isn't oil, it's old, syrupy slushie mix and dust. the only oil in the machine is inside the hermetically sealed (cannot open) compressor. you have a front seal problem. the shaft seal in the front inside the evaporator (steel tube), and the cup-shaped seal between the auger and the evaporator. slush is getting inside the shaft tube and dripping through the inside rear of the machine. replace the seals, lube with a food-safe lube and refill.

How to replace front shaft seal

push the little black button at the front bottom right on the bowl and lift the bowl front and pull it towards you to remove. pull the auger off and the shaft seal is the opaque cup-shaped seal between the auger and the barrel on the shaft. lube new seal with food safe lubricant (i.e. superlube), lube the large rear bowl seal as well and reassemble.

One side of my bunn ultra 2 slushie machine is leaking how do you change a bad seal to stop this problem?

remove the bowls by pushing in black button on the bottom front left of the bowl, pull the bowl up a little, then pull it forward and off. pull the auger off and the seal is opaque, cup shaped, and on the shaft. replace that, lube the edge with food safe lubricant (i.e. superlube), lube the large round bowl seal in the back and put it all back together. you may need a preventive maintenance kit installed as well, but that's a bit more involved

My Bunn Omatic is leaking around the bottom onto the counter when I pour water into the well. I took the top off and removed the washer and seal to clean. The white plastic of the well hole looks to me...

The washer (gasket) is a tray seal. It's made of silicone. The gasket should be assembled by placing the screw nut into the tray (pan) then slip the white rubber gasket over the nut (under the tray) and gently screwed onto the top of the tank. It should be snug down a bit more than hand tight. Sometimes the nut (a large hollowed out bolt that allows water to flow through) can get a bit corroded. Teflon pipe tape helps but if it still leaks then all those parts will need replacement as it's made with a soft metal that easily pits.
** Okay I've given you the inside scoop but really you should not be poking around in there. Call the your vendor for service.
* parts can be found at or any Resturant equipment supply as this is a very common part. You may be able to find a rubber washer that fits though I suspect the black rubber may leave an after taste. Stick with the red type or find a silicone pad and cut a washer to fit.
* Final - If you have this in an office. Check with your coffee vendor as they may fix it for you or give you a replacement. Doesn't hurt to ask around.

We were having trouble with one side not freezing so we replaced the shaft seals and replaced a board on the side that wasn't freezing. It now is saying Maintenance due Shaft Seal. is there still a problem...

You need to go through the menu and tell the machine that the maintenance is done, hold down the middle button to get to the menu, then follow on screen prompts and navigate to shaft seal maintenance.

Sensor open left side not getting cold and torque sensor says hold ultra button for three seconds

This is going to be a project:
1, the hold for 3 second on the ultra button is for the filter in the back which needs to be clean, then machine needs to know that it is clean so that it can reset counter for the next 3 months.
2, The torque sensor is behind the unit covered by the white or black plastic cover under the powder unit, you will see 2 screws holding cover on. The reason it is getting the error is because the 2 pins on the auger shaft are covered in product or the sensor card is damaged(most likely it is the product issue). You will need to perform a shaft seal maintenance on the machine.

My ultra 2 is not freezing anymore and screen says torque error. how do i fix it?

Check the back of the machine where the big plastic cover is, you will have to remove the 2 screws back there, and the 2 hoppers as well as the metal platform. When you remove the cover you will notice a mountain of product covering the shaft and the little CPU board back there, clean replace shaft seal and bushing and make sure that the red and white lights on the board have no product on them.
