Question about Computers & Internet
Hello All I'm currently learning about cisco ios etc now i bought a cable router cisco 851 when i connect the cisco router to virgin media super hub i get connection problems no internet access etc however i changed the settings on virgin box to function as modem Any help on configurations i really appreciate it many thanks
Are you using the cable modem as your router? if so then simply hard code your media hub to a static ip address in the same range that the router/modem communicates on. (private address side)

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

On the linksys switch set the trunk port connecting to the cisco to 'general'. Match the native vlan on the linksys switch port with the cisco. The native vlan on the linksys will be set to 'untagged' with any other vlans that you want passing over the trunk set to 'tagged'.
You probably have a good grasp of how to do trunking on the cisco. The linksys does it, lets say, differently.

The cable modem will need to go through a router because it needs a NAT and PAT translation table, connecting the cable modem direct would lose the ability to get to the internet.
