Hello thanks for the suggestions. It was in fact a bra wire caught between the two drums in order to access it there was a lot of dimantling to do as black clips in mentioned in the bra wire caught problem were not there. It took us four hours to dismantle and repair!

When spinning it makes a very loud noise, i'm worried its dry bearings, it seems a big job to change and expensive? is that right?

I concur with your initial diagnosis, and would agree that it is a fairly substanial repair to carry out.
It involves a complete strip down of washer, nand removeal of drum .
Not a job to undertake unless you feel competent to do so.
As for cost, it is quite an expensive repair to carry out, as it could involve having to replace the drum shaft if it is worn.

the loud clattering noise you hear is the main bearing it needs replaced.the main reason for the repair men doing a runner is its not an easy job and takes time and know how.if i was you i would get some estimates on this job,i would guess they will be high because no one wants to do it.Would you not consider a new machine???????anyway good luck.adrian,,,,

Hi my hotpoint washing machine is near 3 years old the last few weeks it is making a terrible noise when on spin only. \r\nthe noise is really loud but everything is washing and drying the same its just...

Sounds loike the main drum bearings have failed.
Spin the drum by hand from the front, and if it feels rough, or is rumbling or grating, then the main bearigs have failed.
Quite an expensive repair, unless it is covered by the Hotpoint 5 year parts guarantee, check with Hotpoint.

Drum is not turning

Could be the brushes, only way to prove it is to remove the motor and check the brushes for wear.
If they are less than 3 or 4 mm long, then they need replacing. If brushes are o/k, then it is probably a control board fault.

Washing machine was making a loud banging/tapping niose when the drum was spinning. It doesn't sound too good when turned manually. Is it the bearings and are they easy to fix?

banging may happen due to low load also, as cloths form a ball shape at one place.
otherwise it might be bearing or bearing housing. bearings are very difficult to replace as whole drum need to open. if bearing housing got loose in drum then drum needs replacement, also very costly.

WMA54 Hotpoint Aquarius drum does not turn during wash or spin

Start checking the lid switch, if this is stuck the machine wont start.

If the drum does not move at all, the motor, the motor control unit, the motor coupler, the control board may be faulty.

For more details you need to observe if machine is draining and pumping water inside during cycle, see: It doesn't spin

Hotpoint Aquarius WMA54 very noisy during spin

Hi, if your H/P is noisy on the spin cycle, just open the door and turn the drum a few times. If you feel some play, or kind of loud huming noise, then it is the bearings, very, very common on H/P WMA's.

Would not dry clothes to original dryness. Now drum is making a whinging noise at the drum spin as though its catching on something every time it rotates. Also made a very loud clattering noise as it...

I had this same problem. The drum spins on two small wheel which with the help of the drum belt support the drum. The wheels or their brackets may be broken and need to be replaced. These are accessable by taking the back off the dryer. Best to take the old/broken ones in to insure you get the exact replacement.

Drive belt and noises.

your drum shaft is broken this is making the pulley wobble causing the belt to come off and it will also explain the noise. This is a very expensive job sometimes requiring the complete tub to be changed might be time for a new machine
