Its broken. RUN to your nearest HP service center. Pray that they still honor your warranty. well, you should have removed the battery and power supply and let it dry for a couple of hours. you need to have placed it in a warm place to make sure it has completely dried... when it has then that is the right time to open your laptop. if not. you could have shorted some circuits. good luck.

You can replace the screen yourself by buying one from sites like eBay here >>>>>>>>>>
Or you can take the laptop to a repair store for it to be replaced and fitted. Doing it this way will cost substantially more than replacing the screen yourself. You won't get much change from $200.
You can however order a screen yourself and take to be fitted, you may save around 20-25% of the above price although prices do vary depending if they are second hand or brand new.

The 5535 is a decent computer and if it is doing right by you and you are comfortable with it, then go ahead and repair it. I would suspect that the motherboard may have failed but I doubt the processor did, unless you overheated it so bad that it over rode its thermal shut down protection and melted like Chernobyl. The motherboard can be bought on EBay for a decent price, most likely between $100 to $185 bucks. I'll give you a link below that goes to the service manual for that model. With the manual, you can rebuild the laptop with nothing more than a phillips screwdriver and patience. When you are ready and have the parts, get back to us and we can help further.
When the link comes up, it is around 8 mb in size, make sure you have a pdf file reader like adobe reader. The manual will come up sirt of small, just hold down the Ctrl key and tap the + key to enlarge the view.
