SOURCE: 875 Series Engine-cleaned flywheel and

You should put it at .020

Are you sure you had spark before you took it apart? If you are not sure, then the Ignition Coil may have went bad. How did it act before you decided to take it apart?

No Spark can be one of 3 faults.
The wire to the spark plug is either shorted somewhere along its length. An open circuit along the wire coming out of the magneto or
the magneto is not generating a spark.
Best way to test for a spark is to use a neon test lamp.
Hold one end and bring the other end close to high voltage wire under test. Test on your running car first.
Trace the HV wire back to the magneto on side of engine. rotate engine by hand to get magneto to generate a current. Remove spark plug to allow engine to rotate easier without compression.
The high voltage is generated from a coil inside magneto assembly.
Good Luck

Tecumseh troubleshooting

Three things, the magneto is faulty, the circuit is grounded, the plug wire or boot is faulty. A quick test is to remove the small ground wire from the magneto (usually black), if you then get spark the circuit is grounded by a safety switch or a bad wire segment. If not remove the spark plug rubber boot and remake the connection, if you get spark you've fixed it and if not you need a new magneto.

Can't get plugs to fire

You have an electrical problem that will have to be traced back to the source. First, change one of the plugs and see if that solves it. If not, check your ignition coils. Make sure you have current going to the coils. If not, check your fuses and finally your ignition switch. Some small displacement motorcycles have magnetos to generate the power for the spark plugs and that may have become faulty.

Oegn.comThe 675 has become increasingly difficult to start, till today when it appears to be getting no spark (I don't see a spark, but it does shock me when i hold on to spark plug and pull cork). Is...

The magneto is self contained and the primary winding is grounded via the throttle stop, flywheel brake, or the low oil level sensor to ground the magneto enough to stop the spark from jumping the spark plug gap.
First check the oil level and make sure it is fully serviced.
Second check the Flywheel brake switch to see of the cable needs re-adjusted or replaced. There is a lever on the brake actuator that makes a ground on the primary of the magneto. ANY gound on the wire that goes from the flywheel brake, the throttle control (if so equipped) or the low oil level sensor will stop the engine from having spark. There is no condensor. The magneto is excited by the magnet in the armature each rotation of the fly wheel. Grounding of the magneto primary rreduces / stops the function of the magneto high voltage output.

You need to find out what is grounding the magneto primary when the engine should be in a running state.

What would cause no spark? the mower is a masport 8/02 two stroke. Will not start and I have changed spark plug and cleaned every thing but still nothing.

Your spark plug wire may be damaged, or your magneto may be too weak to generate a spark. You also have a kill switch wired to your magneto, and a condensor. I would start by cleaning the contacts of the magneto and then check the gap between the magneto and the flywheel. The gap between the flywheel and magneto should be .010". I would start by checking the kill switch wire for damage. If any damage is suspected, replace the kill switch. Next, I would have the magneto tested or replaced. Also, check all your ground wires for damage, or loose contacts.

When you are checking for a spark, you should have the spark plug installed in the spark plug wire as normal, but not installed in the engine. The spark plug base should be grounded to the engine while trying to start and checking for a spark. If there is a weak spark, this is probably due to a worn magneto.

Wiring on an old 5hp Briggs and Stratton engine

The "heavy wire" connects to the spark plug. It should have a plug connector attached. There are 2 small wires. One of them grounds to the engine block (probably through one of the screws that holds the magneto in place). The other wire goes to the condensor/capacitor.

I have a problem with my master craft lawn mower 2000 model. 4 stroke. 4.0 hp. There is no spark or current produced from magneto. What should I look for? I replaced the soft key on magneto and crankshaft.

I would remove the flywheel to gain access to your points and condensor. You might need to use a wheel puller to remove the flywheel. Once removed you will see another cover that houses your points and condensor. I would definately replace these no matter what. Be sure to set your new points to their proper gap...usually about .015 thousands. When setting gap make sure you are on one of the high sides of the cam. After installing turn crank shaft with cresent wrench adjusted around crank shaft and resting against the soft key...now check to see that points are opening and closing properly. (Turn crank clock wise) Re-assemble all and give er a go!

Quad bike tries to start but doesn't, looked at the spark plug and there is no spark. Any idea's

check your ht lead make sure good connection.check magneto.if magneto looks soiled clean the outer surface.you will see a terminal top left side.remove this(2 retainer screws) and give it a good clean(clean cloth soaked in petrol)use a wire brush on magneto and finnish off with soaked cloth.replace everthing and start it up.theres only a number of things that can go wrong to fire.
plug....dirty,set wrong, oiled up or faulty.ht lead....become loose or worn.magneto....residue,rust,dirt due to being left outside for long periods.
