- first thing is radio size most vehicles have a single size or single DIN opening and some have an oversized or double din dvd players come in both sizes so thats first. second if its a newer car the wires from the factory harness may not be standard power ground speakers but in fact data wires therfore you will need a pricey interface harness (GM is commonly the gmrc01) only with the harness can a proper install even in older cars its best to get the wire harness adapter and not cut off the factory plug say you want to put the factory radio back in youll need that factory harness in tact. another point is that most first timers use black tape to hold the wires together ok for short term but after a short amount of time the tape degrades and then you have open wires, another option is wire nuts they twist on the wires pretty tightly but they are bulky and hard to fit behind the radio properly, in my opinion the best way is to use **** connectors they make a permanent connection they are not bulky and do not degrade, now for the screen on some dvd players it is common that (on the flipout screens the ones that come out and angle up) the screen may obstruct some dash controls or actually hit the dash when they come up most cars this is not a problem but still worth looking into, now the brake wire on some higher end and newer dvd players cannot be just grounded, rather a sequence must be used ( on off on) or whatever it calls for in the instructions but it can still be bypassed by using a hidden switch connected to the ground
i hope this is sufficient info glad to help good luck on ur project
