closely look along the sides of the chain and look for a lock key between to links
push the key sideways and then dissemble the link and the chain will come off

that is way too much slack unless the drive chain is slack. hold the drive chain tight and try again. any more than about 10 degrees would be too much

Jerking at low speeds.


Hi, possibly a fuel problem try new good grade fuel also worth trying a fuel system cleaner. Sometimes the drive chain can be the culprit make sure it is showing the right amount of slack. Your owner's manual will give you the right figure. A tight chain is as bad as a slack one.

Need to tighten drive chain on a honda ca 125 but bike only has a side stand; does the rear wheel need to be in the air in order to adjust using the adjusting nuts?


No it doesn't need to be off the ground.

But, remember that when you are sitting on the bike and the suspension is compressed there is less slack in the chain, so don't tighten the chain too much. Tighten it until you have an inch and a half / 3-4cm of slack in the mid point of the chain between the front and rear sprockets.

Drive chain slack?


Typical chain slack should be about two inches from bottom edge of the chain to the top. Grabbing the chain in the middle (halfway from sprocket to sprocket) and moving it up and down. After adjusting , you should raise the rear wheel off the ground and spin the back wheel checking every 6 inches or so that the slack does not get tighter or looser. If the chain gets tighter as it goes around the sprocket it is an indication that the chain is stretched at that point and needs to be replaced.

How do I reattach chain after it slipped off


Normal 0 This will be the basic instruction for most common saws. Check that the chain brake is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard towards the front handle if the saw is equipped with a chain brake on the handle. Loosen the bar nuts on the clutch cover. Loosen tension screw or other adjuster (thumbscrew) to allow the bar to be moved toward the engine. Some saws have this tension adjustment built into the bar. This will provide enough slack in the chain to able to reinstall it. It may be necessary to remove the side cover to gain access to the clutch/gear assembly on the side of the engine if the chain also jumped the gear here. Remove the cover, inspect for any debris or other obstructions in this area. If none, replace the chain back over the drive gear and in the bar groove all the way around the bar. It may be necessary to turn the bar adjuster screw more to provide enough slack in the chain to do this. Once the chain is in place reinstall the cover and bar lock nuts. Snug up the nuts but do not tighten these. Turn the bar/chain adjuster screw to tighten the chain on the bar (take up slack). I usually tighten to a point where there is no slack between the chain and the bottom of the bar and I can still turn the chain easily around the bar by hand. With experience you will get the feel for this chain tension. Once the chain is properly tensioned, tighten the bar lock bolts/ nuts on the side cover. I hope this helps you out.

Some Poulan Pros have an adjuster screw on the front of the engine case right beside the bar, some have a tool less adjuster on the clutch cover, and some have a slot in the bar for adjusting the chain tension.

The chain keeps coming off.why?


Chains must not have too much slack in them. There should be about 1/2" (12mm) of vertical movement on the slack side.

It could be your have a worn out chain.. Look at the drive pinion. The teeth should have a flat top and both faces of the teeth should have the same profile. If the sprocket is very worn, the teeth become pointed and the chain does not sit correctly on the drive chain wheel on the rear wheel, (i.e. there is a gap between the chain and the inside edge of the driven sprocket.

If you change your sprockets, change the chain also (you must do this as the chain will also be very worn).

Chain keeps coming off


Sir,
What you need to do is adjust the rear wheel to take up the slack in the drive chain.
You by now have possibly ruined both the sprockets where the chain need to be securely located.
To take out the slack the wheel spindle will have to be loosened and adjusted by the two clamps around it they are on each side of the swing 10mm nuts used for this purpose.
To replace chain and sprockets the wheel needs to be removed so I suggest purchasing a Haynes manual or similar to study involvement.
