You should follow the procedure in the manual or printed under the cover of the printer.

It usually involves pressing the ink button on the printer for a few seconds.

Put in new ink cartridge and get error black and color cartridges need replacing

"New" refilled cartdiges? Or new from the manufacturer? Some printers have chips in the cartridges that "know" when they ran out of ink, and they have to be reset. If the refiller didn't reset the chip, it still "thinks" that the cartridge is empty.

If they're new cartridges, bought from the same place at the same time, I'd suspect bad cartridges.

Epson c70 problem

Re: Epson C70 Problem by Denny Conway (12/18/03 9:05 AM) reply + / - Aspah:A Service Error where all LED's/Lights are blinking at the same time,is normally a Maintenance Request Error, which is actually a Waste InkPad Overflow Error...JUST SO YOU WILL KNOW: On most Epson's, while theprinter is in this error condition, it disables all operations, including data communication. Normally your remedy is to replace theWaste Ink Pad/Pads with a new one/ones and then reset the InternalWaste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replacethe pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow andnormally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. 0.gif Re: Epson C70 Problem by Jim (12/21/03 4:10 PM) reply + / - I have just installed colour cartridges and a black cartridge into my C70.
Myproblem is that the black cartridge is not being recognised and I aminformed by the printer that there is insufficient ink in the cartridgeand a need a new replacement. The black cartridge that I have used is agenuine epson cartridge.
I have been informed by epson help linethat either I need to install a new new cartridge or that my printerneeds to go to Epson for a maintenance check.
I cannot afford another new ink cartridge nor can I afford the return charges and maintenance bill from epson.

Can you help?

Youwill need to download the SSC Service Utility and click on the "ResetCounters" tab and then click the "Reset Black" tab to reset the blackink cartridge. The only problem is you will need to reset or freeze theink cartridge.

You can get the SSC Service Utility here

I hope this gets your printer going again.

MX310 error code U163

Can you tell me, have you replaced the empty tank with a full one? And, have you manually reset the ink level function by pressing Stop/Reset for a full 6 seconds (one second longer than described in your manual?)

If you have, and you still see the ink cartridge light flashing, does it flash every second or every three seconds?

The contacts for the ink cartridge are easy to contaminate by accident. Sometimes wiping the contacts off with alcohol will clean them enough for the ink level to be recognized.

Now, and yes, this is a common problem. Press and Hold the Stop/Reset button for 6 full seconds again after cleaning the contacts and then release it? Use the one Mississippi method of counting.

The Scan cover must be closed completely and locked in place. And the ink cartridge must be firmly locked in place as well.

Please advise me of your results. There may be a more complex problem involved and it is important to have the necessary data in order to get you back to working again. Okay?

How long has it been since you purchased this printer?

Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830

Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.
