Trying to reboot toshiba satellite a105 s1014 but it is asking for a password

Hello there...

I've been experiencing this similar problem once and toshiba replace my motherboard because they cannot solve the problem.

And I really hope that I am wrong. But, this problem is actually a known BIOS problem in some version of BIOS which is fixed in the latest BIOS update release Version 2.30.

See this quoted from toshiba tech support website:
Change History
Version 2.30 - 2008-10-10
  • Corrected: A BIOS password may be set automatically (spontaneously) by the computer.
  • Corrected: The internal keyboard repeat speed can not be changed.

See if you can claim this to toshiba, because it is actually BIOS bug.

Hope this helps... :D

You need to get a new password from the computer manufacturer to remove/reset the bios password.

Automatic password on having ignited the equipment

Issue: A "Password =" prompt may be displayed when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is resolved.
If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.
The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider.

Resolution: If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, download and install the latest BIOS version. Newer BIOS versions display a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.
The latest version of the computer's BIOS may be found at pcsupport.toshiba.com.
For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.
If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem resolved. Toshiba will cover the cost of this repair under warranty until Dec 31, 2010.
To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit the Toshiba Global ASP Locator at pcrepair.toshiba.com

Just installed new hard drive

I've performed home PC support for a number of years. Afriend recently contacted me who owns a Toshiba A105-S4014. He told methat the Laptop started asking him for a Password when ever it wasturned on. He said that he had NEVER set any type of password andnothing he tried would resolve it. A little research at http://pcsupport.toshiba.comlisted a Suppot Bulletin that talked about this EXACT problem he washaving. He was not aware of a BIOS flaw that could cause this too occurand was frustrated to learn this was a KNOWN problem by Toshiba. Belowis the link the the support bulletin and what systems are affected thisthis KNOWN PROBLEM (To Toshiba of course). You need to download andinstall the latest BIOS to fix the problem for your model. The programonce you run it will offer you three ways to create a fix given yourcircumstances (Floppy, CD or via OS).
Toshiba says that if you have this problem NOW. Then you can takeyour Laptop to any authorized service provider who will FIX the problemFREE OF CHARGE to you because Toshiba is aware this is their problem!See link below for more detail.
