Idler wheel It works, but it's been sitting in my aunts house idle for so long that it appears that part of the rubber on the wheel has gone flat and now there is this constant thumping sound....how can I fix that? Or how do I figure out exactly which wheel i need to buy to replace---i tried to look it up but couldn't get any results. Thank you :)

SOURCE: constant "thumping" sound when dryer is going

you can fix it by ordering a whirlpool roller kit but its no big deal the drum sits on rubber rollers when it just sits the rolers get flat spots on them like tires and makes the thumping sounds its just noisey but no big deal but they do make a kit with softer rollers

How to remove idler pulley on 2004 acura tl?

This is not an easy job!!! Support the motor and remove the upper motor mount. Take passenger side wheel off to access the torques bolt hidden behind a small dust cover. Remove, 4 bolts hold the plate that the torques screw went through. You need to do all this to take the housing off from around the idler pulley. Also remove the power steering pump from the housing. Dont need to detach the hoses, just unbolt it and sit it up on the motor. In order to get the housing off there are 5 bolts. 2 of them you need to raise and lower the motor in order to gain access to them. Last, the idler pulley has a torques bolt holding it on it is a pain to get out as the plastic cover for the timing belt is in the way. Good luck. Took me 4 hours!

Why does my Califone 1400 plate sound loud?

The rubber idler wheel that turns the platter may be worn out and may be hardened with age. If the rubber is not pliable the wheel turning against the metal platter will cause a noise. It may require a new rubber motor idler wheel.

Idler Wheel on Record Player

That old Emerson turntable is a relic from another era. It is unlikely that you can find replacement parts.

VCR take up reel suddenly does not turn (play, record, forward).

that is a common failure with VCRs.. you will see a rubber wheel that shifts between the two reels .. the rubber tire on that wheel becomes hard, contaminated or oxidised ... replacing the wheel is the best fix but you can try cleaning it .. dont use alcohol because that can remove the elastomers in the rubber ... you can use just water and a lintless cloth, or special cleaner for "idler wheels" .. you can also clean up the surface of the wheel with a common eraser .. if the rubber has become hard with age then the cleaning fix will only last a few months .. new idler wheels are avalible for popular brands but often not for others .. while you are cleaning the rubber idler, also clean the driven areas where they touch .on the take up and rewind spindles .. for really bad rubber idlers that cant be replaced .. there is a special high friction compound that can be applied .. unfortunatly this seems to only lasts a few months and then must be reapplied .. . if the rubber is soft and in good shape then usually just cleaning does the trick ...

7E57 SAMSUNG ERROR CODE ON VCR SAMSUNG SV657X AND NOTHING WORKS WHEN I PRESS PLAY THEN THE CODE APPEARS TO THE SCREEN

the machine monitors the pully speeds to make sure tape is actually moving properly .. if it isnt then it halts rather than spool off hundreds of feet of tape inside the machine .. what a mess that would be ... almost always the problem is an idler pully that operates the takeup reel .. the rubber gets hard or contaminated so that it slips .. if it fails to turn the takeup reel then every thing stops ... you an try cleaning the wheel if you can find it .. it usually under the transport mechanism (sometimes available if you can take the bottom off the unit) .. dont use alcohol .. you can use water or special idler wheel cleaner or even a pencil eraser .to clean it ... or for name brands there may be parts still available .. you can just replace the idler pully with a new one ... this requires more work than most people are willing to do ... and if you have someone repair it the cost is often more than a new machine .. if it gives you enough time you might try to fast forward all the way then reverse all the way .. do that a few times and it may clean the idler wheel enough to work for normal play .. ...

Belt broke

Buy a new belt. Insert the idler pulley into the slots under the motor pulley. The wheel should be on the left side of the motor as you face it.
Put the belt around the drum, then through the idler roller. Then over the motor pulley.

Dual 1228 turntable platter not spinning, the motor will not turn

If the motor is not spinnig then it is probably seized. These motors are very robust and rarely need replacement parts. Remove both the top and bottom bearings, clean shaft and bearings with solvent and then fill bearings with light machine oil. The bearings have a sponge inside which will soak up lots of oil for years of trouble free use. Once reassembled, tap the bottom bearing while the motor is spinnig and the bearings will centre themselves. If the idler and it's mechanism is working ok as well then you should feel lots of torque from the from the platter when it is spinning.

Water Wheel won't keep turning

This humifier has a black drive wheel and a white idler wheel. On mine, the idler wheel froze up which caused the drive wheel to damage itself trying to turn the drum. First, free up the idler wheel and replace the shaft it rotates on. The idler wheel is still available but you'll have to fabricate the shaft using a machine screw and hollow shaft from your local hardware store. When the idler wheel turns freely, the drive wheel (if still in decent shape) can do its job of turning the drum. If not, you can replace the drive wheel (also still available). I recently put a small rubber band in the groove of the drive wheel and it enabled it to get the necessary grip on the drum.

It's getting harder and harder to keep these wonderful Bemis water Wheel humidifiers alive as the years go by. I wish they still made them because no other humidifier comes close.

Hi,

How does the fast forward work? There is a device in a VCR called an idler tire, which is a flat disc that lays horizontal and has a rubber tire around it.

The idler tire is on a pivot and it pivots between the tape sending reel and take-up wheel depending on whether you are in rewind or fast forward.

I suspect that the rubber is worn on the tire and that the wheel is slipping. You might also have some worn belts as well.

The idler tire & belts can either be replaced or re-gripped using a re-grip solution that roughens up the very top surface of the rubber.

The problem will be the worst when the tape is at the end and all the tape is on one of the reels. This causes the most drag or resistance and if the idler tire is slipping, the reels will go slow and the deck logic will sense that and then stop.

You can find generic belts and idler tires at www.mcmelectronics.com

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!

IF IT IS A WHIRLPOOL DRYER, A FEW YEARS BACK THEY CHANGED THE IDLER PULLEY FROM A WHEEL DESIGN TO A TEFLON GLIDE. THIS DIDN'T WORK AND THEY HAVE GONE BACK TO THE PULLEY DESIGN. IC THE BELT BROKE OR BURNED IN TWO, YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE BELT AND IDLER TOGETHER. GAIN ACCESS BY REMOVING TWO SCREWS UNDER THE LINT FILTER. LIFT OUP THE DRYER TOP AND REMOVE ONE SCREW FROM EACH FRONT CORNER HOLDING THE FRONT TO THE SIDES. THEN TILT THE FRONT OUT AND LIFT OFF OF THE BOTTOM SUPPORTS. NOW YOU HAVE ACCESS TO EVERYTHING.

REMOVE THE DRUM AND INSPECT THE IDLER. IT SETS BELOW THE MOTOR PULLEY AND KEEPS TENSION ON THE BELT.
