Question about Epson Stylus DX5050 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Epson Dx5050 blocks any printing once it has claimed that any ink cartridge needs replacing. How can I overcome this so it keeps printing with the warning, like Canon printers do, until the cartridge really runs dry? It seems to be rather conveniently requiring (expensive) cartridge replacement far too frequently: I don't believe it can be drinking ink this fast.

The trouble is, you get far too little printing out of the expensive Epson cartridges, and I compare this directly with Canon printers that we have. The ink costs of running the Epson printer are far greater than the cost of the printer. So, genuine thanks for the comments confirming what we are experiencing. But my conclusion is that, in future, we will never buy or recommend Epson again despite the fact that some Epson products such as our 4490 scanner are excellent.
I really like my Canon ip6210D where the print head is on the cartridge so there are no ink duct and other clogging issues. Changing the cartridge solves all ink problems, the cartridges hold a lot more ink than Epson, and you can run them dry.

I said "genuine thanks for the comments", and I gave my honest opinion of the product.

Martin, many thanks. Fully appreciate what you are saying. It's all part of my learning how best to use this site, and thanks for being here. Regards, Chris

Unfortunately you cannot override this behaviour without installing a valid cartridge in the printer.

Epson printers do not have this sort of functionality as it would leave the printhead open to damage and foam clogging.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    Apologies on all counts here..

There's a long standing issue with the way that ratings are graded here and whilst the fixya team are working on it, there's always instances like this when a rating of "Thanks for Trying" (TFT in fixya lexicon) seems appropriate but in real terms actually means that the rating takes a hit.

In this instance you had a genuine no-win situation so from your side I guess the TFT seems appropriate as you don't have a fix and the information was helpful. From the experts side of the fence, it's case of "Ouch, I've taken a hit".

Anyway, thanks for the original thanks and apologies again for the comment you received above.

    Martin

Why doesn't my black ink work in my Epson WorkForce 600 series after replacing the black ink cartridge?

The Epson printer may only use genuine ink cartridges which contain a chip so that you cannot fill the cartridge with ink or use non genuine ink cartridges.

OR

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

I don't know how to change the ink cartridge of epson tx 110

http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/nx110_/nx110_ug/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm
Replace Ink Cartridges
Your Epson Stylus NX110 Series and its software will let you know when an ink cartridge is low or expended.
If ink is low, the ink light flashes. You can continue printing until a cartridge needs replacement.
If a cartridge is expended, the ink light stays on. You must replace the cartridge to be able to print.
SEE IMAGE BELOW
Warning:
Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and do not drink the ink.
Note:
If you need to change a cartridge before it or any other cartridges are low or expended, run the Ink Cartridge Replacement utility.

You cannot print or copy when an ink cartridge is expended even if the other cartridges are not expended. Replace any expended cartridges before printing or copying.

Leave your old cartridges in the Epson Stylus NX110 Series until you are ready to
replace them to prevent the print head nozzles from drying out.
When an installed ink cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if your printouts do not look their best, even after cleaning and aligning the print head.
Follow the instructions in these sections to check and replace your ink cartridges:

How to print using black ink only on Espon dx5050?

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges??

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

If you have Genuine Epson Cartridges, and have ink in ALL THE CARTRIDGES, to print in black only, Make the following settings on the control panel. SEE BELOW:

Select the number of copies.
Select l [Plain Paper].
Select the paper size you loaded.
To make a color copy, press the
x StartE[Color] button.
To make a black-and-white copy,
press the x Start D [B&W] button.
If you find this information helpful, pls rate me.

You can download the entire manual. Just click on link below. I found on the web:

Epson sx200 One of the colour inks is empty and no print in black

Hi, this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart from buying new inks. Epson and all other inkjet printers do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are not used for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epson recommends printing at least once a month with all colours to prevent this. Printing in black only option will only work if the colored inks are OK. Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing.

Compatable inks

The easy answer is yes, but Epson's are notorious for clogging up when you are not using epson genuine ink. Everytime I have used anything but an epson cartridge im my printer it has cost me more to clean it then if I spent the extra $ on epson ink. Hope this helps.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 - print with black ink only

Nope.....

Epson will not print unless all carts have ink in them to some degree. If the light is on for any reason, printing will be halted.

For future reference, once the color carts have been replaced, you can set the printing defaults to print in either gray scale or BW only. Keep in mind that Epson printers tend to mess up if you don't use the ink at least once a week.

Ink

Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head. Therefore, once one of the cartridges are expended, the printer signals you to replace the cartridge in order for printing to continue.
