We have tried to clean it...but the vertical line is still there. I think it is the the ink is separate. The machine was purchased about six months ago.

Not sure what you mean as barrel, Is the line present when receiving fax's/printing reports or just when doing a copy? Does it only do it when using doc feeder, if it is only 6months old then is under warranty

Got a brand new Pixma 280 here. Have aligned the print head and executed cleanings, reinserted the ink etc, but still there is one area that is blurred on every printout which results in a white vertical...

The Pixma printer allows to make test pages and do maintenance on it.
First go to Start Menu on Desktop at the left bottom Click on it then go to printers and Faxes.
Right click then click on Properties. Then go to Maintenance panel Click on it. Do the Deep Cleaning, Roller Cleaning keep on doing it until it shows you paper that does not leave a vertical white gap. You have to be very patient as this does not go away quickly. You might have to run 20 pages doing this cleaning until that line is gone.

I have a winchester 1000 and when i break the barrel it shoots

sounds like there is an obstruction between the barrel and the firing chamber.try cleaning the barrel and the chamber. If this does not work make sure when you place the barrel in the firing position that everything is lining up correctly allowing for an efficient release of air from the chamber.

My mp510 misses lines after cleaning and deep cleaning....HELP! Gail

This worked for me a few times so far - i saw a picture guide on e-how but I can't find it at the moment.
Open the printer cover
Take out the printer cartridges, keep them upside down and put some sticky tape or the original orange seals that come with the cartridges over the outlet holes, then turn them back.
Remove the printhead by lifting up the grey lever and taking out the black printhead (it's the black half-box with 4 slots in it and the ink-filters at the bottom). Soak the box in cleaning solution overnight to dissolve the dried ink. Shake it off until it's dry and reload it all. Now try it.
If it's still got lines, it's a bit more of a hassle. Repeat the steps above, but you'll need to find a pen barrel to fit over the filters - one for the black and one for the colours, or cut them to size. Rinse the print-head in water, then submerge the print head half-way in water, fit one pen-barrel over the black filter and suck water in (it's not easy) until the water is clear. Do the same for each of the others with the other pen. Dry the print head by shaking it (don't use tissue - you can use a hairdryer) and re-install the whole lot. It's worked twice for me now. Try not to let the ink run dry which will help.

Paintballs popping before leaving barrel

Well, covering the holes shouldn't cause the paintballs to burst like that. I'd make sure there isn't some aberration in the barrel but that may be hard to tell. Clean it thoroughly and hold it up to a light and see if you can see anything in the reflections inside. You can try to get someone to hone the barrel just a bit to see if that helps get rid of any small aberration(s).

You can try another brand of paint. The one you're using may be a bit brittle, or just around a while and brittle.

Also, check your chrono speed. Make sure it's not cranked up so high it's busting the balls.

You might try another barrel, but would be nice to see if you can fix this one eh. I'd try some other paint first after cleaning the barrel thoroughly.

Good luck!

When printing all black areas have vertical lines going through ,have cleaned print heads and changed toner - no change in quality.

Clean the encoder strip, the clear plastic band that runs behind the print carriage. A Q-tip damp with alcohol will wipe off any grease or ink. You'll find a grease spot just above the area on your print that has the vertical line.

Vertical dark lines

Try to reset the printer unplug it for an hour.

If those line are drawn (nice and straight) the printer has serious issues, think of replacement.

If you change recently your black for a compatible then try a genuine one,

The print head might have leaked.
Or, a drop of ink felt on the wheel who move the paper. Open it and try to clean with a damp rug
The mechanism need some greassy spot so do not be too clean.
good luck...
