Re: installiing memory in inspiron 1000

You compuer comes with this already installed.

  • 512MB PC2100 DDR Memory
  • You can only install another 512MB total 1G.

To get into where the chip is should be underneath that laptop secured by two screws.  If you find there is no chip inthere already then all you need to do is place the other chip into the slot.  The first is already in there and to get that you have to go through the removing the keyboard.

Do i have to change the jumper position when i install the new memory chip for dell inspirn 1000

    Thank you for your query

If you are installing more memory RAM, then there is no need to change any jumper settings, simply take the old module out and replace with the new module

Small Computer System Interface, this is part of the computer that need driver to installed.
All you need is to installed all the driver on your laptop and it won't ask for it again. SCSI devices usually connect to a controller card like wireless card, camera,PCI slot, e.t.c

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

    Installing Memory

Yes, you can replace/upgrate the memory module under the keyboard.

Before you proceed, note that Dell Inspiron 2650 uses DDR200 3.3V SODIMM modules. Also, memory module capacities supported are 128MB and 256MB with a Maximum memory of 512MB. If the current memory installed is 128MB, you need to order 2x 256MB modules to replace/upgrade both memory slots. If the installed capacity is 256MB, you just need another 256MB for the slot underneath the laptop.

Check "Removing the Keyboard" for guide removing the keyboard to access the 2nd memory slot.

Read "Preparing to Work Inside the Computer" before committing to the above procedure.

Let me know how you get on.
