Question about Coleman Propane Forced Air Heater w/Electronic Ignition (50,000-80,000 BTU)

Open limit switch

The green light blinks four times on my furnace. It says that the problem is an open limit switch. The thermostat won't recognize the temp.

Tjere is a limit switch that will only allow the durnace to reach a certain temp by kicking on the fan. The thermostat being unable to read the temp affects its ability to keep the furnace from exceeding your settings. *Advise not to use until corrected. Both limit switch and thermostats are inexpensive and simple to change. If in doubt, call a heat and AC tech to repair.

1993 goodman status light 4 times blinking

Witch blower is running, the inducer or the systems blower?
System blower could mean the the high limit is opening and shutting down the systems gas train, I would check this out first.

The other problem could be with the pressure switch for the gas train, it is supplied from the inducer motor, check to see if it is operating fully.

HSI boards do go from time to time, this sounds more like a system control problem.

My furnace is flashing four times on model number dgaa090bdta I would like to try changing out the dual element time delay fuse. I have an extra one. Where is it located?

That's a coleman brand furnace and the four blinks of the green LED light indicate that the lower limit switch is currently open which would indicate an overheating issue. This would cause the gas valve to not open and thus no flame and no heat. Likely, the switch is just bad and needs to be replaced. Here is a source for the switch: http://www.hvacpartstore.com/2409.html . The switch is located right next to the electronics control panel un the upper section of the furnace. You can try turning off the power and taking the switch out and tap on it a few time or try to flex the snap sensor a little bit on the back side. That might get it working temporarily until you can get a new on. Just don't try to bypass the switch or modify it all since it is very necessary for saftey.

I installed a new goodman unit this past spring. It seems to work ok to good in the day time but the tempature is warmer so we do not need as much heat. At night I know the thermostat is coming on. I...

Heating Mode (Goodman Service Manual)

· The furnace control checks for an open main limit (this
limit is normally closed). If the limit is open, the furnace
will remain inoperable until the limit is closed. During
an open limit the circulating air blower will be
energized. The status light will blink four (4) times.
· The room thermostat reacts to a demand for heat.

· The control will then check to insure that the vent
pressure switch is open. If, at this point, the vent
pressure switch is closed the control will blink two (2)
times and will remain inoperable until this situation is
corrected.

· The venter blower is energized.· The vent pressure switch will close when it detects a
pressure in excess of its setting. If the pressure switch
fails to close the status light will flash three (3) times.

The sequence cannot continue until the pressure switch
closes.

· After a pre-purge of about ten (10) seconds the electronic
ignition device will be energized.

· After a slight delay the gas valve will open.

· The burners will ignite and the flame sensor will detect
the presence of flame. The ignition device will
deenergize. If the sensor does not detect the burner
flame, the gas valve will close and the ignition cycle
will be repeated for a total of three attempts. If, after
the third attempt, the presence of flame is not detected,
the furnace will go into a lockout condition for one (1)
hour. It will then repeat the ignition cycle. This one (1)
hour lockout and retry will occur indefinitely.

· Thirty (30) seconds after the main valve is energized
the circulating air blower will be activated.

· The furnace will remain in operation until the demand
for heat is satisfied.

· Once the demand is satisfied the venter will shut off,
and the circulating air blower will shut off after the field
selectable time off is attained.

· The furnace will remain dormant until the next demand
for heat.

Limit Swith on Coleman Central Heating and Air

Sounds like the limit switch is not bad ...... its just doing its job. You need to determine why he furnace is overheating. Are your filters clean? Is your blower wheel clean? Is your blower motor running fast enough? It might be set on to slow of a speed. The blower motor capacitor could be bad. Are all of your air vents in the house open? Are your return air registers blocked? Is your duct work properly sized? Put a thermometer in the return air duct. Note the temp. Now stick the thermometer in the plenum. Note this temp.. Subtract the high temp from the low temp. This number should fall within the temp. rise rating found on the data plate inside the the furnace on the same sticker as th model and serial numbers. If your temp. is above the suggested temp rise. you have an air flow problem. If it is within the suggested temp rise listed then your high limit control should be replaced.
Good luck

Goodman furnace went out. Light blinks four times

Your main limit switch is activated. Maybe for good reason. This switch keeps the furnace from overheating. I have the same problem right now and I think my a/c coil may be blocked, limiting air flow through the heat exchanger and the furnace. Does your gas and main circulating fan come on for a few minutes before the switch activates and the light begins blinking?

Check your furnace filter and any return air ducts in your home - see if they are blocked or restricted.
