Most obvious are the batteries. You are supposed to use two AA Alkaline / Ni-MH batteries. The best choice are the Ni-MH rechargeable ones, because you can record twice as long as with the expensive alkaline batteries. When the alkaline batteries are empty, you have to trow them away.
But Ni-MH batteries don't live forever. Typical they should survive 1000 charge discharge cycles, but when "misused" they can be bad before you reached that.
Please also check the contacts. Both, on the batteries and in the camera, where the batteries go, if these contacts are all clean and shiny. And at last, make sure you did put in the batteries the correct way. Turned around the camera won't work at all.
If you got the camera brand new, you should know there are no batteries delivered with the camera.

SOURCE: power button

does your camera have a slide switch to choose between filming and playing video? because i have a dvr410 a later model which is very similar and if you hold the power button while moving that sliding switch it should switch on, i would surgest you plug the camera in to its charger or put in a fresh battery while you do this or you will get very frustrated ;~)

Remove the existing pictures if there are any then use the camera and format the memory. Even better is to buy a new memory card for it. If it will not format and or work then return the memory card and send the camera in for repair.

Good Luck,

Hi, According to the manual, my Vivitar DVR-310 is compatible with Windows only but I use a Mac. Is there a solution? Cheers

very simple. remove the card, and copy the pics from it into a photo editting program. or just connect the usb device to a usb port to download them.. part of manual is for using the software, part for the explaing it's operation of the hardware. as for mac software, contact vivitar for the proper software from here. i may be mistaken, but i think it's just going to be editting software, nothing to working the camera itself.
