SOURCE: Pioneer VSX-D608 Optical connection

The manual states that the default association of each digital input in as follows:

  • Optical 1: CD
  • Optical 2: MD
  • Optical 3: TV
  • Coax: DVD
Use the "Signal select" button to set the receiver to use a digital input, and the Dolby/DTS button (above "Signal select") to enable decoding.

As samz11 stated above, a remote is required to alter the digital input mapping.

SOURCE: No Sound on TV/SAT setting on Receiver.

Most TV has Audio Out RCA jack at rear and it gives same TV Sound as coming from its speakers.
Hook audio wire red white RCA pins at TV Out and plug these pins to TV/SAT input of receiver. Select TV/SAT input in receiver to get TV program sound coming out from TV.
Hope that info will help you.

SOURCE: Pioneer vsx-819H: MCACC setup won't display on tv

Its because the pioneer does not display menu options through hdmi. You have to hook up basic yellow composite to monitor out.

check the audio output settings of your components. THey may be set for dolby digital which your receiver can process but your TV can not. Try PCM stereo setting or "other".

I am trying to hook my pioneer vsx-455 up to my samsung dlp-hd tv and have no idea which pre-outs to use.any help would be greatly appreciated.or do i need to go through the cable box and if so how?

Ok. Where does the TV programming originate? Antenna, TV, or (usually) the Cable Box. I'll tell you sight unseen, no TV ever adds to the audio experience. many of us watch on monitors so that would suggest that a TV can play absolutely no part in the high-end audio experience. It's specialty is video with basic audio capacity thrown in. A Cable Box is for all purposes a digital audio and video source with separate outputs for each. Keeping with my practice I'd run the BEST VIDEO (and minimum audio in case you want to use TV speakers for that source) from each video source to the TV (it has multiple inputs, right?) and the BEST AUDIO (no video) from each source to the receiver. One video connection from the receiver to the TV for set-up/control. This requires some switching on your part to watch different sources but it eliminates troublesome and unnecessary routing and handling of the individual signals.

What your unidentified TV >>requires<< is the BEST Video from every video source. That would be the DVD, SAT Box. It probably has multiple high-end video inputs, right?

What your receiver needs is at least a basic composite video connection to the TV so you can set it up and manage it.

A web search for "Pioneer VSX-D308 manual" will find the manual.

ALL of the BEST Audio should go directly to the Pioneer. That includes the SAT and DVD player.

Your TV can exist just fine with basic audio from the video sources. And you could still watch it/them without the Pioneer turned of if you want.

I can't find the exact manual for free anywhere but if you download something similar like http://www.retrevo.com/support/Pioneer-VSX-D409-Receivers-manual/id/385ci977/t/2/ it should give you the basic guidance you need.

I recommend

Do some web searching for what the cables are for. It's all basic and standard.

Trying to connect a Plasma TV to this receiver which does not have HMDI

Hello,
What you need to do is connect the HDMI from your source(SAT, Cable box or DVD) directly to your tv. Then, connect audio from that same source down to your pioneer receiver.
Good Luck

Connect the Direct TV and the Xbox directly to the television by their respective video cables.
Then connect their audio cables to the audio inputs on the receiver.

This connection method does not require use of the monitor out terminal.

Pioneer works with cable box but not with new blue

HDMI version is 1.3 in your receiver. The current version is 1.3b. I would suggest calling Pioneer cust assistance and see if there is a firmware update. Your unit has a 2 year parts & labor warranty. Their # is 1-800-421-1404 It sounds like a CODEC issue. Hope this helps

I'd like to know where the vcr cable & cable wire from wall

(I own 2 VSX-D903S Units.)

There are NO optical (Toslink) or coaxial connections for Satellite or Cable-TV on this Pioneer unit.

The coaxial connector on the receiver is for connection to an external antenna for FM Tuner (radio) reception only.

Your cable line from the wall would go to your Cable Box, or a "cable-ready" TV or VCR. You would then connect the composite (YLR) or S-video output A/V (S+LR) connection to the VCR 1 input on the back of the receiver. Connect your TV L/R audio and S-video or Composite video output to the TV in connection on the Receiver. (Connect the Composite TV-out connection to a composite video-in connection on the TV.)
