Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
I have a Gateway GT 5012 Multi media Center PC (XP) whenever I do any large processing the fan comes on very loud. It is apparently a multispeed fan trigered by CPU load. (It is so a that at times I would like to cut the fan wire to silence it.) When the processor is not under load it is fine but when it kicks up to high speed it is very loud. Can I replace this multi speed fan with a single speed that doesn't kick up to high speed and make all of the noise? Any help is greatly appreciated because this is my only dislike with the computer... John
You may have more than one fan.
The fan in the power supply may not be replaced, but you can replace the switch mode power supply with a newer model that has a larger fan that is very quite.
The same goes for the second fan (if you have one) that is inside the case.
Most computer suppliers have better designed and quiter fans.
