Your laptop can be ON without hard disk but it will not boot anyway if the hard disk not installed.
You can enter the bios set up to check if the hard disk is not detecting or not working. or visit the nerest service center.

Toshiba disk drive mk6028gal

The hard disk drive (HDD) in your Toshiba laptop is the component that holds all the files and folders you use.
If you are running out of room on the hard disk drive because of all the programs you have installed, it may be time to replace it with a new one that has a larger capacity.
Replacing the hard disk drive on a Toshiba laptop is a fairly straightforward and simple process, as you only need to remove one other component to be able to reach the hard drive.

Save a backup copy of any file or program that you will need from the original hard disk drive to an external device such as a CD-RW or USB flash drive.
Shut down the Toshiba laptop's operating system completely.
Disconnect the power cable if it was plugged in and then close the top screen lid.
Flip the entire unit over so that the bottom end of the laptop case is facing towards you.

Hold down the release latch for the Toshiba laptop's battery.
Slide the laptop battery out of the case and then put it aside.
Locate the screw at the upper-left corner of the case that holds the CD or DVD drive into place.
Remove the screw and set it aside. Grab the edge of the CD or DVD drive and then pull it away from the Toshiba laptop case. Set the drive aside.
Remove the four screws holding the large square plastic cover over the hard disk drive at the lower left end of the laptop case.
Lift the square plastic cover off the laptop case and set it aside so that you can see the metal plate that covers the hard disk drive.
Take out the screws holding the metal plate in place.
Lift the metal plate out of the case and set it aside.
Remove the two screws at the top edge of the hard disk drive and then the two screws at the bottom edge of the hard disk drive.
Disconnect the hard drive from the motherboard by sliding it out towards you.
Lift the hard disk drive out of the case and set it aside.
Push the new hard drive into the open slot and then reconnect the four screws.
Set the metal plate back on top of the new hard disk drive and then attach its screws.
Put the plastic cover on and reattach the cover's screws.
Slide the CD or DVD drive back into its port and then reconnect the screw.
Put the battery back into the Toshiba laptop.
Turn the laptop over and open up the screen.
Power the computer on. Insert the recovery disk that came with the Toshiba laptop into the CD or DVD drive.
Follow the operating system installation instructions that will appear on the screen.
Transfer the backup copies of the files you saved earlier from the external device to the new hard drive.

Unit failed to boot and observe the followng; - No start-up display - No CMOS boot-up display - Hard disk clicking sound and OS won't start

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power supply.
Remove the battery.
Remove the disk-drive.
Reconnect the AC power supply.
Turn the computer on.
Put any "data" disk into the CD-drive.
Does it display the CMOS boot-up display?
Can you hear the PC try to spin that "data" CD, i.e., trying to "boot" from it?
If it works "better" without the disk-drive attached, the disk-drive is the problem.

MY LAPTOP WAS STOLEN LAST NIGHT. I WANT TO BLOCK THE ENTIRE LAPTOP SO THAT NO ONE CAN USE IT. Y COUSIN REGISTERED IT TO TOSHIBA LAST YEAR. CAN YOU HELP ME BLOCK MY LAPTOP?

If you had setup the laptop with a Power on Password and a hard disk password, then your laptop would have been protected/locked and no one could gain access to your laptop and hard disk without these passwords.
Sorry there is no way anyone can track or block your laptop once it leaves your hands.
I suggest on your next laptop you set the Power on Password and hard disk password or at least encrypt sensitive data on your hard drive.

I have a toshiba satellite and i am getting a blank screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner

Try remove everything that attached on your laptop, Flash Disk, Floppy Disk, CD-ROM, or anything, just the laptop only without anything.

If still won't operate, it's the operating system crashed, try reinstall it with new ones, and you must format the Hard Drive during installations

Hard drive from gateway solo pro 40 gig will it work in toshiba

I'm pretty sure it will. The only thing is that Gateways of that generationn used a custom connector which plugs onto the hard disks standard IDE / ATA connector.Just pull this extra connector off and you can use the disk in any machine.
Also ,Toshiba used similar adapters,so if Toshiba's using one on your model, then you'll need to palce the toshiba adapter onto the hard disk from your Gateway. You may also have to go into your BIOS ,and make sure the BIOS recognizes the disk if your BIOS isn't already set to "auto detect".

Toshiba satellite PRO A Laptop

Your laptop may be infected by a virus or trojan.
I suggest you take the laptop to a qualified technician who will do the following:
1: Remove the hard disk
2: Attach the hard disk to another computer system as a SLAVE DRIVE
3: Scan the laptop hard drive for trojans,malware/viruses.
4: After scanning and cleaning, re-install the hard disk in the laptop.
That should get you going again! Please install an antivirus program afterwards to avoid the same happening again.

We want to install win Xp in Toshiba Satallite A205-S5825

Depending on the model of your Toshiba, it may have an unsupported hard disk controller which requires that you load a disk driver from a floppy disk by pressing F6 when prompted during the boot of an XP installation CD. If so, you will need to download the apropriate driver and put it on floppy diskette, Of course a floppy drive will also have to be available during the boot. (enable USB legacy support in BIOS if you use a USB floppy drive)

Alternatively, check your BIOS settings to see if the disk controller can be set to operate in ATA mode rather than AHCI mode. ATA mode should work with the XP cd-rom.

Toshiba Satelite A65-S1762 hard drive problem

That means that the disk has a bad sector.

Try chosing the option to format the hard drive during the system installation.

If that does not work, then replace the hard drive.
