-   I have the same problem accept that it is making a high pitched continuous rapid beep noise kind of like if you accidently place something on the keyboard when it is on. (Not sure how else to describe it). I have tried every suggestion I have found to no avail. HP of course wants big bucks to even check it out. If I had the extra bucks I'd get a new one. Any one have any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

if you are certain the power supply is good(try it in another machine) and its completely connected it sounds as if your motherboard is going bad, there is a 5-volt supply in your power supply that does not turn off when the system shuts down, its called 5-volt standby, this runs some small circuits on the motherboard that monitor the power switch, when its pressed the circuit starts up the whole power supply. thats how we can power off the system with software. usually its a custom chip and some components, but without the schematics of the motherboard and the replacement parts and the ability to de-solder and solder on a multi layer board its not usually repairable by the end user.
the system memory and processor are not even used in this part of the system startup, they come into play after the supply is up and stable and supplies the power good line to the motherboard.
make sure the supply is good, and all connections are making contact, that none of the pins have backed out of their housings when being plugged in and that there are no cracks in the solder joints where the power connectors attach to the motherboard.

What is the best NAS for about $300 (+, - $100)? I was looking at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/629822-REG/Buffalo_LS_XH2_0TL_2TB_LinkStation_Pro_LS_XHL.html,I need 2 TB of space, about 40 MegaBytesPerSecond, bittorrent, dlna , and web (configuration) access.
One day after I shut down the machine, it just refused to start back up. When I hit the power button, there is a yellow light there, but nothing at all boots up.
When I connect the power plug into the computer, a green light turns on, on the motherboard. That means the power supply is working. I took out the RAM and re-inserted it, and still no results. What could be wrong?

Perhaps the mechanical connections in the power switch is faulty. If so, how would I correct that?
