My vcr plays commercially-recorded tapes fine, but tapes recorded on it or another VCR play with the sound distorted. The picture seems fine.

Sounds like its mechanism need some alignment. Guide pole alignment. Contact any service technician. This is technically skilled work. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Clean the head

I have a DCR-100, which is basically the same camera, and had the same problem after I hadn't used it for about 5 years. After running a cleaning tape through it four times it became much clearer, but sometimes, reviewing my equally old tapes the pixellation/distortion reappeared spasmodically. I ran the tape at FF to the end, and then back again. Seemed to fix it. I think after a long period of disuse the recording heads oxidise and it takes quite a bit to clean them. As to why loosening up the tape works - no idea!

Picture during playback is badly distorted

There could be several reasons for badly distorted pictures. considering the age of the unit as DV camcoder which I am guessing would be quite a bit. Most likely the heads have worn out and need replacement. I am assuming you have this problem with newly recorded tapes being played on a TV directly from the camcorder. For this you may also need to check if you are using new tapes and whether the recording mode is PAL or NTSC as per the TV format.

Alternate test would be to play back a previously recorded tape back from the camcorder. That way at least you can establish if the problem is the read head or the write head or the tape itself.

Wrong setting picture distorted is there a reset button

Hello
There is no reset button to this DVD changer. To reset it to its factory settings, just unplug it from the power socket, and plug it again after 10 minutes or so. This will reset the internal memory of the set. OK.

The vcr picture is very distorted. I know that

I’ve never had much luck with tape cleaners. I found that you can use acetone. You can buy it in any hardware or k-mart,walmart. Open the VCR up and find the big chrome cylinder that spins. It has the heads on it. There little windows on the cylinder. Clean them with the acetone. Use just enough acetone to wet the foam and rub the heads lightly. There is sometimes 2 to 4 heads on the cylinder. Let dry for about 5 to 10 min’s then play a tape. If still not a good picture, clean again. Sometimes if takes more than one cleaning. Hope this is helpful.

After recording a program using the Toshiba W522, the picture rolls and jumps up and down, while in playback mode. I have no problem with recording, its just when its time to actually watch the program,...

If the tapes are old or cheap, they may simply be no good. However, I found that the automatic tracking is the best thing to ensure perfect quality picture and sound.

Distorted sound on playback, samsung mini dv camcorder.

Try a DV tape cleaner first. If that doesn't work, see what it would take to get the audio heads realigned. Any camera store can do that for you.
