How do I get an instructional manual for the awning on my RV?

I have a manual retractable awning on my RV. We bought the RV used & there isn't an instruction manual for operating the awning. It is an A & E systems by Dometic. How do we get an instruction manual?

When I clicked on the site you provided it didn't open. I found the manual online.

Thanks for trying to get us the info., We don't know what the model no. is. I went to a website that I found on my own & printed the manual that was listed for several models. I just searched for A & E systems by Dometic.

The site I provided a link to, and phone number is the manufacturer of your awning. You did not provide a model number so it was as close as I could get you without directing you to a generic manual for Dometic manual awnings.

  • rjbeg123 May 20, 2009

That is really odd. I do apologize, This is becoming a problem for me when I post links. Sorry about the bad link I see it tries to link to some sort of Fixya mail site with the link intact after that. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Instructions for operating rv awning

Manual or electric. If electric press the switch located inside the unit. If manual, you will need to go to each arm and press the release clips to unlock the arms (usually black but may be a lift up lock). Next tank the long rod with a loop on one end and a 90 deg hook on the other. Toward the front of the coach at the top of the awning you will see a small lever on the awning. Use the loop end of the rod to pull the lever down. Take the other end of the rod and insert it into the black strap that should be barely hanging down and pull down as you back away. This should pull the awning out. Once pulled out all the way, go to each end of the awning. Close to the wall of the RV there should be an arm hanging down with a knob on the back of it. Grab the bottom of the arm and slide it out and clip it into the end of the extended awning arm. Push down on the lower arm to tighten the fabric and then tighten the knob. Once both ends have been tightened then on the lower arm there will be a pull out handle in the middle, pull it out to release the lock pin and lift the outer portion of the lower arm up to raise the awning to the desired height. Repeat for the other end. If it is raining or windy put the awning away. DO NOT LEAVE IT OUT! The wind will catch it like a kite and rip it off of your trailer. Rain will fill it up like a swimming pool and collapse the center tube and trap you inside of the RV.

Should I get a motorized awning?

In case you don't want to hassle with manually deploying your awning, look for one that allows you to retract it with the push of a button.

    What is motorized awning?

motorized awning feature sensors that cause them to automatically deploy when it's sunny or rainy and retract when it's windy to prevent damage, rather than doing it manually every time.

We just purchased a used '99 Starcraft Field & Stream PUP. There were no instructions for setting up the awning. I need step-by-step ''how-to'' help since everything I've found says, ''raise support...

I had exact same problem on my 93 popup. I finally figured it out. First, the poles with the plastic rings slide into the poles with the metal rings. These are the vertical support poles. Next, the poles w/ plastic nipples slide into the other poles with rubber ends. When put together the poles with the nipples should be spring loaded. These spring loaded poles rest against the top of the camper and the nipples are inserted into the 3 holes of the pole that go across the front of the awning giving you rafter support. The tension from the spring should keep the pole in place against the side of the camper. The first 3 poles with the plastic rings go from the ground to the front awning pole where the nipples can slide through the plastic ring and then into the awning pole. The vertical poles can be adjusted for height by sliding them up or down and then twisting them like a screw to tighten them up and keep them in place. 2 of my 3 vertical poles will not lock when I twist them so I have to get tricky with them. The metal rings, which should now be at the ground, are there so that you can stake it down under windy conditions. I hope this wasn't too confusing but I beleive it will help you. Good luck!!!
