Guide strip A guide strip that apperar to be made from cellophane came loose in the printing mechanism. It is approximately 15 inches long x 1/4 inch wide and has an oblong slot in each end. Can anyone tell me where this strip goes and how to reinstall it? Without it the printer no longer functions

Edge Stitching Foot? Or 1/4" guide foot? Piecing foot?
1 4 Edge Stitch Foot or http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/accessories#1814
In actuality, almost any flat presser foot will work that is wide without any ability to roll edges, pintuck, etc. You can attain the 1/4" seam by measuring exactly 1/4" from the needle and mark with a strip of painter's tape, or some other movable material. Then just use that painter's tape as your 1/4" guide. Somewhere I saw someone recommended using 1/4" inch graph paper as a guide--set the needle on a line and use the 1/4" line for the fabric guide.
Windows, basically the problem is the 6306 can only print 13.6 Inch Wide, it looks like you are trying to define a paper size 15 inches wide. As the paper size defined is wider than the capability of the printer, you do not see this paper size within Windows.
The solution to the problem may be much easier than you might imagine as it is very unlikely you actually want to print 15 inches wide, you more than likely want a paper width of less than 13 inches but are including the sprocket holes and margins at the side of the paper.
Simply define a paper size the width of the printable area of the paper, so long as this is less than 13.6 inches you will then be able to select this within Windows.
Ok, I think the problem you are having is when printing from a version of Windows, basically the problem is the 6306 can only print 13.6 Inch Wide, it looks like you are trying to define a paper size 15 inches wide. THe T6215 can only print a maximum width of 13.6 inches.
If you create a form wider than this Windows will not allow you to select this form within the printer driver as the printer is not physically able to print this wide.
Your paper may be 15 inches wide but it is unlikely you will be printing 15 inches, simply create a form whose width is equal to the maximum print width or 13.6 inches.
You will then be able to select this form in the printer driver.
This sounds as if you have some ink/contamination on the small scaning glass that sits to either the left or right of the main glass on the copier.(Depending on the model/make)As your original is scanned over this thin piece of glass the scanning device will see any spots and this will result in a black line down the page. Please clean the glass with a soft rag.

One possibility is. look toward the back of the printer, there is a strip of clear plastic, about a quarter inch wide and clear. It runs the length of the print head area. That contains the stop strip. That strip or the sensor on the print head itself may be dirty and not sensing the strip, therefor not knowing when to stop.
This "plastic strip" is called the "carriage encoder strip". This strip dictates the timing of the carriage assembly. If the end slots aren't broken, you can re-attach it. Otherwise, you'll need to replace it. They are about $10.
