Calls go directly to voicemail

my mom's jitterbug flip phone goes directly to voicemail and doesn't right. If I call her, I hear one or no rings before it goes to voicemail

you did not provided what brand, model and year, therefore you need to read your manual...

you need to find in your setup section and enable calls, setup as to re-direct to voicemail after say 5 rings, enable ring.

unfortunately without model and year - more detailed directions cannot be provided...

Your description of your problem is rather brief. Trying to read between the lines, I gather several questions:
Why is it when I try to call a certain number it goes strictly to their voicemail?
When somebody tries to call my number, it directly goes to my voicemail?
The general reason a call goes directly to voicemail is that your phone is off or in the area of limited or no cellular service. Normally if you are on the phone when someone calls, the phone notifies you that a call is waiting. However if your phone is off or in a fringe area or where there is poor cellular service such as in a large building, subway system or the like, calls to your phone are routed directly to voicemail.
The same applies if you call someone else. If there is no cell service to their phone or their phone is off, your call to them is routed directly to voicemail. You'll probably find this problem more common in rural areas where the cellular services poor, or in a large city with tall buildings that block cell signals such as in New York City.

Most SmartPhones also have the ability to send an inbound phone call directly to voicemail. This can happen several ways.
1. When the phone rings, and the user does not wish to receive the call, depending on the cellular operating system (iPhone, Android), the user may make a sliding motion on their touchscreen sending the call directly to voicemail. I do this a lot with unfamiliar numbers that are often telemarketers. Anybody that really wishes to get a hold of me will leave a voicemail message and I'll return their call.
2. Calls originating from contacts saved in your contact list may also be sent directly to voicemail. I have saved literally hundreds of phone numbers of telemarketers under multiple "telemarketer" contacts in my cell phone and sent them all directly to voicemail so I do not see bothered if they continue calling.

the reason the phone automatically goes to voice mail is simply because the phone has sim card has been set to do so.

The solution is for you to deactivate the voicemail.

That is when you will be able to receive your call properly.

To deactivate the voicemail, all you have to do is to dial ##002# and send.

it will deactivate the voicemail of your phone and you will be able to receive your calls aswell as your phone will also start to ring out.

Contact your service provider (AT&T, Verizon, whoever) and have them check your call forwarding settings. I work in AT&T technical support and that is the issue 98% of the time. The calls are set to forward directly to voicemail without even ringing, just have them check it out. :)

The norstar extension may be setup up for Call Fwd to voicemail, or call fwd/busy. Also, Custom Call Routing may be setup to send the caller directly to the mailbox.

You want to make sure your callforwarding is on. Sometimes when you select sleep mode, the calls will divert directly to Voicemail. Plus, ensure you have signal. Without signal, by default the calls go directily to voicemail. We won't wanna miss a call here. You can follow these steps here. start

In the option to forward calls, there should be an option for the amount of seconds the phone RINGS prior to forwarding directly to voicemail.
IF your HTC device doesn't have the option for voicemail, and your calls are routed else where, contact your carrier for the voicemail number. This is very important!

There is no option in the phone that will allow you to set the amount of rings before it will go to voicemail. If you want it to go directly to your voicemail you can always turn off the phone or ignore the call. This would take them directly to voicemail.

there should be a switch at the side of the phone that controls this.
you need to set the amount of rings u want before it goes to voicemail.
